How to Make and Use a Solar Oven

Tips

  • use black paper for it not tin foil for the inside.

  • To make your lightweight oven more efficient and to get it to cook at higher temperatures, you need to trap in the heat. (Without a cover, hot air will rise, bringing in a constant flow of cooler air.) Oven cooking bags are cheap and easy to use; simply seal the cooking pot in the bag. A pane of glass, preferably double-pane glass is an alternate solution. The glass should be slightly larger than the smaller box but not so big that it won’t fit inside the larger box.

Solar cooker report/results.

Solar Cooker Evaluation
I constructed a double box solar cooker. The materials consisted of: two boxes one slightly bigger than the other, shredded paper for installation in between the two boxes, black construction paper to coat the inside, foil for the sides, saran wrap for the top, tape, and a plate to put food on.
One construction problem I had was when I went to put the skewers in to support the sides they did not work and we had to use tape. Another problem that came up is my apples did not cook at all, we think that because I didn’t cover them with foil. Also a problem I had was that I had to have sides that expanded as they went out but with the box I had it was normal so they didn’t expand. Though I just deconstructed them and added some card board here and then and it worked.
I had one fantastic helper named Hope Bischoff she helped me each day constructing it by putting on foil and the black paper. Also Hope maggots group lended me some skewers. Then I got a pizza from Aisy Neville.
The first was that my solar cooker would really work. Then, when we put it outside it steamed up and looked like it was cooking! When I checked on it at lunch it needed more time and I was unable to go out again till the end of the day. When I got out there it had gotten tore a little, and it had heated my pizza but it was cold from the shade, but my apples were raw because I didn’t cover them.
Modifications I would apply would be one, rap my apples in tin foil. Second, take of one of my sides. Third, remember to rotate the box every hour.
