Passikudah is home to a number of coral reefs for exploring; the relatively calm waters make for a safe dive while the warm Indian Ocean abounds in marine life. Watch out for not just colourful outcrops of coral but tiny tropical fish living amongst these organisms as well as bigger marine life that will glide past gracefully. Notching up the thrill factor the seas off the coast of Passikudah is where the HMS Hermes rests; one of the first aircraft carriers to be designed. It was sunk by Japanese bombers off the coast of Batticaloa during WWII and is reserved for seasoned divers. Explore this wreck located quite close to shore, well known for sheltering a wide variety of marine life. Diving is not recommended for amateurs from May to October in the region.
