Koh Phangan is one of Thailand's most popular islands and with good cause. Apart from swimming, diving and heavenly beaches, the place offers night markets, half-moon parties, vibrant bars and more.
Thong Sala is the island's most popular night market; in true Thai style, the place offers loads of experiences at retail and food stalls. Buy just about anything at the night market which is more specialised in local food. This will prove to be quite an adventure for all foodies.
Head over to Wat Pho for indulging in some soothing relaxation. The herbal sauna centre founded by monks from the nearby Wat Pho is located next to the island's oldest and biggest tree. There you are treated to herbal saunas that promise to invigorate mind body and soul. Services are offered free on the basis that you make a donation and it is recommended to get there at around 6 pm as other times tend to be too hot. The herbal baths are open from 2 pm to 7 pm.
Many Phangan resorts offer sunset cocktails by the poolside; there you can enjoy the most amazing sunsets in Thailand while sipping your favourite drink. The Amsterdam Bar is well known for its poolside drinks while Edge20 at the Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas offers poolside settings and a unique mix of cocktails skillfully created by experienced mixologists.
Koh Phangan is most popular for its rambunctious full moon parties; these, however, are seasonal and if you happen to be visiting the island off season for a full moon party not to worry. The Half Moon Parties are just as vibrant, crazy and fun. Entrance tickets include a drink and the chance to dance the night away to some pretty hip beats; in the company of equally enthusiastic party goers.
Mae Haat Beach is quite a unique spot as the place is the meeting point for two currents. Separated by a small sand bar the two seas are of two different colours. At low tide, the strip of sand resembles a small island which gives one the illusion of walking into the sea.
This rather private beach is found around Chalokolom Bay part of a sleepy fisher village; if you are out for a walk under sunny skies this beach is easily found not far from you Koh Phangan resort. The soft sands and turquoise blue waters are quite welcoming while the quiet tourist free environs are a refreshing change.
Of course, the biggest lure of any Thai resort is the fabulous food; leaving many tourists hankering for the flavours long after the holiday ends. Attending a cookery class will equip you with the right knowledge for experimenting and creating your very own Thai dishes.
Enjoy movies on the beautiful sandy beach of Koh Phangan under the stars, A journey to paradise where indulgent luxury is as certain as the cool ocean breeze.
