Here are some resources that I plan to use in my future music classroom!

Youtube is an informational site that allows students to see music demonstrations first hand. I chose this site because it provided a brief overview of many different musical styles around the world. This gives students an opportunity to see which musical cultures interest them, so that they can have an idea of which to research further. ()

The Encyclopedia Britannica is an informational source that provides direct and easy to understand definitions of various subjects. I chose to use this article from the Encyclopedia Britannica to give my students a clear understanding of what world music is before they start to gather information that pertains to it. Daria Music

This is a specifically world music site that teaches students about the different aspects involved in world music. I chose this site because, among other things, it teaches students about the different instruments, how they sound, how they are played, and then shows students tutorials on how to recreate them on their own. This is a free music streaming site. I chose this website because it is a great way for students to freely explore different cultures of music. Through the use of a world music playlist students can be exposed to different music traditions that they may have never heard before. World Music Composer is a website that helps students to not only hear different region's musical instruments, but then to combine them into their own musical creation. Quaver's Marvelous World of Music

Quavers is a wonderful music classroom resource including lesson plans and learning games for students, but they also have a wonderful world music section. I chose this site because I believe that it is an all-around valuable tool in the music classroom, but also because it gives students an opportunity to explore an in-depth view of different musical cultures. This site features an interactive map that allows students to click on the continent, country, and style of music that they want to hear and gain access to recordings and text. This is a quiz that will assess students knowledge of the world instruments that they are learning about. I chose to use this quiz as a resource because I believe that self-assessment is an important tool for students to use as they are learning about world music. I particularly liked this quiz because it showed a short descriptive answer to each question after students answered them on their own. This is an article based site that focuses on multicultural topics. I chose this site because I thought that it presented a good case for the differences between western and world music. One feature that this site provided was the ability to compare and contrast the musical scales of different cultures. This is an article based site that allows the reader to explore many different aspects of world music. I chose this resource for my world music list because it gives a multitude of information to students that is easy to navigate. One of my favorite features of this site is that it not only provides articles, but that it provides visual and audible examples of world music as well.
