Newly Established Central Universities In India (After 2009)

The Central Universities Act, 2009 has made many positive transformations in the higher education sector of India. 15 new central universities have established and most of them are in rural remote parts of state and it gave path for many poor people to study in government allowances. Here is the list of that universities.

Nalanda University

Establishe : 2010

Nalanda is a postgraduate, research intensive, international university established by India and supported by participating countries of the East Asia Summit.Inspired by the academic excellence and global vision of its ancient namesake, Nalanda is an 'Institution of National Importance'.

South Asian University

Estalished : 2010

The South Asian University is an International University sponsored by the eight Member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).The eight countries are: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.The vision of a world-class South Asian University to be collectively established by SAARC was first outlined by the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh at the 13th SAARC Summit in Dhaka in 2005.The University focuses overwhelmingly on research and post-graduate level programmes.

Central University of Gujarat

Established : 2009

Central University of Gujarat in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India was established through an Act of Parliament, Central Universities Act, 2009 by Government of India.

Central University Of Haryana

Established : 2009

Central University of Haryana is in Jant-Pali village,Mahendragarh district of Haryana, India,which is set up in 500 acres (2.0 km2), has been established through an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by the Government of India. The territorial jurisdiction of Central University of Haryana is for the whole of the Haryana. The first Convocation of the University was held on March 1, 2014.

Central University of Himachal Pradesh

Established : 2009

The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is a university operating from the Temporary Academic Block which is established at Shahpur, Himachal Pradesh. This university had been allotted to Dehra town but was shifted to Shahpur for temporary classes although enough space was provided at Dehra and later divided into two locations. The university was founded in 2009 as a result of the government's policy to establish Central Universities in each of the states that do not already have a central university.

Central University of Jammu

Established : 2011

Central University of Jammu in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India has been established through an Act of Parliament: “The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. It started functioning from 2011. Dr. Sudhir Singh Bloeria was first Vice Chancellor of the university.

Central University Of Kashmir

Established : 2009

The Central University of Kashmir formerly the Central University of Jammu and Kashmir,is a university proposed to be settled at Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir and presently functioning from transit campuses at Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is one of the 13 newly established central universities in different states of India by the Central Universities Act, 2009.

Central University of Jharkhand

Established : 2009

The Central University of Jharkhand was established through the Central University Act, 2009. The University started with a vision to specially focus on relevant present age educational drives with an emphasis on research in cutting edge technologies. It offers 5-year integrated (UG/PG), Post graduate and Ph.D. programmes in almost all its Schools/ Centres of studies.

Central University of Karnataka

Established : 2009

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) was established by an Act of the Parliament (No. 3 of 2009) at kadaganchi of aland taluk Gulbarga, Karnataka. It is one of the 16 new Central Universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI Plan Period to address to the concerns of ‘equity and access’ and to increase the access to quality higher education to people in less educationally developed districts which have a Graduate Enrolment Ratio of less than the national average of 11%.

Central University of Kerala

Established : 2009

The Central University of Kerala (CUK) is one of the 15 Central universities established under The Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No.25 of 2009). The CUK is situated in Kasaragod, the northernmost district of Kerala, India. Periya is 20 km from Kasaragod.

The university started functioning from a transit campus in Vidyanagar with its humanities schools and other amenities.

Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University, Uttar Pradesh

Established : 2013

Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) is an autonomous public central university located in the Fursatganj Airfield, Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh.

It is a specialized institution and comes directly under the Government of India. It will be heavily resourced and financed by Government Ministries/Departments, primarily by Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Science and Technology and collaboration with leading International Aerospace and Aviation organizations for cutting edge development inputs.

Central University of Punjab

Established : 2009

The Central University of Punjab (CUPB) is a Central University located in Bathinda, Punjab, India. It has been established through an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. The territorial jurisdiction of Central University of Punjab is whole of the State of Punjab.

Central University of Orissa, Koraput

Established : 2009

The Central University of Orissa was established by parliament under the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No. 3C of 2009) by Govt. of India, situated at Koraput Town, Koraput district in the Indian state of Odisha. The territorial jurisdiction of the Central University of Orissa is the whole of the Odisha.

Central University of Rajasthan

Established : 2009

Central University of Rajasthan is a central university located in Ajmer, Rajasthan, India. CURAJ has ten schools, twenty academic departments and one community college covering Technology, Science, Humanities, Commerce, Management, Public Policy and Social Science programs with a strong emphasis on scientific, technological and social education as well as research. Total student enrolment at the university exceeds 1700 and includes students from over 23 states

Central University of Tamil Nadu

Established : 2009

Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) was established by an Act of Parliament (No.25 of 20 March 2009). The University was inaugurated on 30 September 2009 by Kapil Sibal who laid the foundation stone. Prof. B.P.Sanjay, Former Director of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), and Professor in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Hyderabad was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the University.
