[EDUCATION + HOUSING] Central European University Opens Two State-of-the-Art Buildings in Downtown Budapest

This is not going to make the residents in nearby streets happy until 2020 (the expected finish of the project.) However green and sustainable it will be. Streets that will get the extra noise are Nádor, Zrinyi, Vigyázó.

Budapest, Sept. 15, 2016 – Today Central European University opens two state-of-the-art buildings in downtown Budapest, offering high-tech space for learning, teaching, research, and the exchange of ideas in line with the University’s commitment to open debate and community engagement. The two buildings, one of which retains its historic façade and interior elements, and both of which feature green technology, represent the completion of Phase I of a three-phase campus redevelopment project. Designed by award-winning Irish architects Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey and their Hungarian partner M-Teampannon, the general contractor is Market-Strabag. Both buildings are part of CEU's campus along Nador utca (street) in Budapest's downtown, within a UNESCO World Heritage Site buffer zone. Images of the new buildings are available here.

If “Cherry, cherry lady…” is still putting the boogy in your legs. Then you are luck with Budapest hosting many idols of the past time to time. If this is not enough than hold tight, the Bros are back with a tour for Ł10m :) No gig confirmed for Budapest, yet.

[TRAVEL + POLITICS] First Air Algerie flight touches down in Budapest

You can now reach Alger (Algiers) twice a week. The personal touch - at least for me - is that it was Algeria where I have first flew as a kid. It was Oran via Geneva though. With Malév and Swissair, and both has ceased operations. (Must be getting too old.)

The first Air Algerie flight from Algiers touched down at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport yesterday, according to reports. Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó, who officially “received” the flight, remarked that Budapest is the first CEE destination for the airline.

[TRAVEL + HOUSING] Wizz Air to add 65,000 extra seats from Budapest Airport during S17

Just a quick math if while you are here. If Wizz Air still runs at around 85% capacity, then this capacity figures means a potential of 55,250 more visitors to Budapest in the Summer season. Which translates to at least a 110,000 nights (or roughly 10%) boost to Budapest’s already booming holiday letting. Will this make real estate investors and holiday operators happy? Yes. Will renting long-term get harder? Probably. Will this make Budapest livable? Good question.

Budapest Airport has announced that Wizz Air will be expanding operations from the Hungarian gateway for S17, adding four new destinations and increasing frequencies on existing services. The ultra-low-cost carrier’s (ULCC) expansion will bring an extra 12 departing flights per week, and up to 65,000 additional seats from Budapest during the summer season.
Reinstating links to Hannover
Enhancing existing links to northern Germany, Wizz Air will be reinstating Budapest’s direct route to Hannover, last operated by Eurowings in 2010. Commencing 10 April,
