Oman has a rich geography where there are plenty of beautiful places with historical backgrounds that need to be visited. The diverse cultural spectrum makes Oman a fascinating place for travelling.
Packing all depends on where you plan to go. Actually you don't require that many things to travel in and around Oman but in case you plan to camp in the desert then you must have warm clothing such as fleece jackets as it gets really cold in the night. You should pick solid summer cross trainer walking boots if you plan to explore the desert sands and forts in Oman. You need to wrap the boots and tighten them well before walking in the sand. Take a zip-off trouser along with you which can be unzipped when travelling inside the vehicle. If you plan to go into the interior areas in Oman then you need to carry a small overnight bag with you while leaving your main items in the hotel you are staying at. You need to cover these small bags in plastic in order to keep away the dust and sand. Don't forget to carry plenty of water, tissues and wet wipes.
Don't ever leave any garbage behind when you leave your camping site or any other outdoor location where you spent time connected with nature. Make sure you collect all your rubbish and take them back to your accommodation in case there are no places that you can find to dispose garbage. When you are visiting Raz Al Jinz to watch the turtles you must follow specific instructions of the guide in not disturbing the turtles.
Besides staying at one of the Oman luxury resorts in the region such as Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort there are many other things to do while in Oman if you only care to do some researching. Enjoy mountain trekking through the stunning Al Jabal Al Akhdar mountain range, take time off to visit the Shargiyah region to walk across the hidden Wadis which is an amazing experience in itself or visit the fjords located in the North where you get to enjoy fun-filled activities of friendly dolphins and whales. This region is excellent for scuba diving.
Drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated all the time. Remember that Oman is mostly a desert which means you need to protect yourself from the scorching heat emanating from the sun by all possible methods. When driving in sand dunes it is well known that many get motion sickness. Unless this is not well tackled it can be a traumatic experience to you and others. So make sure you carry your sea sickness tablets when you plan to venture into the desert areas.
Call 9999 on any emergency situation if you need to contact police, ambulance or fire brigade. Don't ever travel off-road by yourself because if you get stranded or meet with an accident you will not be able to cope with it alone. It is best that you hire a good guide when travelling into the desert. If you are going on a self-guided tour then ensure that you carry route maps and comprehensive notes on your itinerary that will provide you ample support.
