9 Top-notch Sushi Restaurants in KL

Are you a fan of the most popular Japanese dish outside of Japan? Here are the 9 best restaurants in Kuala Lumpur to satisfy your cravings for all types of sushi dishes:

1

Oribe

If you're looking for the most swanky and technically sound sushi restaurant with a polished culinary sensibility, look no further than Oribe. Its head chef, Chef Ori is known for his unmatched skill and unyielding attitude on quality and perfection. Some of the best dishes here to try are the Nigiri, Sashimi, Seiko snow crabs, shirako and oysters. If you're stopping by for lunch or dinner, and have got a bit of time on your hands, let Chef Oribe work his magic as you sit back and relax. The preordained multi-course sets will not disappoint. If you are just stopping by for a quick bite and are on a limited budget try their affordable "seto".

2

Kinme Sashimi & Grill Bar

If you're looking to impress a loved one, Kinme is the place to head to. It is by far the sleekest of all the Japanese restaurants in KL. Their sashimi is, literally, to die for. Another classic dish is the nigiri plate. It comes with an assortment of tuna, yellowtail and mackerel. Also, unlike most other sushi places, their sushi topping far outweighs the rice it holds!

3

Kampachi @ The Troika

Kampachi's flagship restaurant located at The Troika has witnessed many marriage proposals and top-tier business deals thanks to its stunning design and interior. Hundreds of colourful bulbs, the double-heighted ceiling and the range of stunning display counters set the stage for what might be one of the best sushi experiences in town. This winner of three Best Japanese awards boasts an awesome sashimi-topped sushi and shake aburi maki. When checking out the best restaurants in town it's better to stay at serviced apartments in Kuala Lumpur than hotels. The likes of Ascott Kuala Lumpur place you close to where all the action is in the city.

4

Kame Sushi

Unlike many of its counterparts, Kame Sushi's emphasis is on the plethora of delicious dishes they serve. This simple restaurant doesn't offer much in terms of glamour and appearance. Headed by Chef Masahiro, the lack of emphasis they place on the venue is found in their food. With just 14 seats at the counter, a few rooms for private dining, your best bet is to make a reservation before you drop by. The food will not disappoint.

5

Kaihomaru

One of their key strengths is that they get their tuna supplies straight from a facility in Tokyo, owned by the restaurant owner. Thus, you can rest assured they get the freshest seafood going into their dishes. Besides their tuna dishes, do try the mirin-laced grilled egg sushi.

6

Koryori Enoshima

Fairly new to the sushi scene in KL, Koryori Enoshima started making a name for itself for a few of its signature dishes. The Italian influence is evident in their dishes as it is the same management that operated Ozeki Italian Cuisine restaurant at the same venue. A few dishes to try - mentaiko spaghetti with seasoned cod roe sauce, shirasu pizza with sardines, salmon belly sashimi and diamond maki.

7

Sushi Hinata

Don't be fooled by their boring, if not dull entrance facade. Amazing delectable treasure await when you step inside. It is headed by one of the best sushi chefs of all of Hinata's branches including Bangkok and Nagoya. Their ingredients such as freshly ground mazuma wasabi from Shizuoka, home-pickled ginger and fresh fish flown in thrice a week set the stage for some fascinating, delicious dishes.

8

Ichiro Sushi Bar

True to their name, this little place specialises in sushi and serves a mean gunkan maki loaded with creamy natto beans. If you happen to stop by for lunch, here's what to order - the lunch set with your choice of futomaki or nigiri. Sides include miso soup, tempura, salad and chawanmushi. All of it costs less than USD5.

9

Matsuya

Nestled amid a number of coffee shops in Devi's Corner, Matsuya features a laid-back, almost moody, setting. Their best dish is the grilled cod in ohba leaf. If you order sushi, go for the salmon ikura cheese maki.
