Those who have a pet know how difficult it can be to travel with our 4-legged friends around Spain. Although the offer of services for tourists with pets has been considerably improved, with more permissive bars and restaurants, hotels and public transport with pets admittance (with restrictions), there is still a lot to do. The capital, Madrid, is an example to follow in this sense. Here you are information about a series of places to visit with your pet during your trip to Madrid.
Madrid and its vermouth is an indispensable combination. It is true that if you are travelling in spring or summer you can always opt for the terraces, but if you want to be sure that your pet will be admitted, look for bars and taverns with this option. Enjoying tapas in La Barra, a must-visit place on Olavide square, might be a perfect plan: it has pets admittance and the food is delicious.
The accommodation is one of the elements you have to pay attention to when you travel with pets. There are some chains of urban hotels that offer you this possibility: the Petit Palace Hotels, the Catalonia Las Cortes… All of them are located in the city centre, but all of them have restrictions of size and weight, so request information in advance. Another option is to book an apartment, although it might be more complicated to find an Airbnb apartment with pets admittance than a 4-star hotel.
Inditex shops allow dogs (not only in Madrid, but in all Spain, it is a rule of the company). La Casa del Libro, on Gran Via, also allows dogs, so you can make the most of the last hours of the afternoon to pass by and check out the books you want to take home with you. In the area of Fuencarral you will find other shops with pets admittance, especially small boutiques.
Your dog will be able to run freely around the centre of Madrid while you lie down on the grass to read a book surrounded by nature. El Retiro is and will always be one of those magic corners of Madrid, and the advantage is that it offers special hours when your dog can walk unleashed. If your dog is a bit naughty, look for a not really busy area so that you can control him better: some parents do not want dogs to be close to their children. Remember that coexistence is important, so look for the perfect place, the park is huge. You do not have excuses.
There are bars in Madrid which have opened their doors to pets in order to make business. La Traviesa de Conde Duque is one of the establishments which offers the best attention and the most charming ambiance. The weekend brunch is delicious, but you need to make a previous reservation, as it receives many visitors, especially on Sundays, and it is quite small.
One of the best places in Madrid to enjoy with your pet. It will have the perfect space for running and feeling free. The ambiance is really pleasant, as many Madrilians come here to have their daily walk with their dog. The area has improved a lot in recent years, with better services and better communications with the centre, which will allow you to have a relaxed walk with your dog.
