All of us know somebody who has tried to convince us of the fact that there is nothing like contemplating Madrid from its roof terraces. And we must agree with them: more than a trend, it is a fact. The best panoramic pictures of Madrid can only be taken from its roof terraces. The good thing is that you do not need to be a good climber. Now one can find a hotel in the centre of the capital with a roof terrace from where to enjoy the views, a delicious coffee or a cocktail, or even a party until sunrise.
A famous place, the place to be if you are fond of any type of art or culture: cinema, painting, literature. Here famous people and new artists join multi-cultural tourists who arrive looking for inspiration, or shade, who knows. La Pecera cafeteria is a perfect place for enjoying a cold drink. If you are looking for something cheap, take care, it is not. But you know what happens when something is in fashion...
We leave Gran Via and head to Tirso de Molina. We replace the mythical high buildings of the capital by the lively and historic roof terraces of one of the most eclectic buildings of Madrid. The roof terrace is located on the 6th floor of one of the buildings. In order to get there, you just ring a bell as if you were going to visit a friend, and you will go up to an Andalusian gourmet restaurant with stunning views. It offers a varied menu and the southern taste we miss at the capital.
This recently refurbished accommodation —now managed by the chain IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts— features one of the best terraces with views of Gran Via in the capital. This roof terrace of Mediterranean design, chill out ambiance and bar and snack service is of free access for all those who want to have a drink and contemplate the sunset over the skyline of the centre of Madrid. If you are staying at the hotel, it will even be easier for you: you will be able to go up to the roof terrace at any time and capture Madrid from any perspective.
A cool place in a cool neighbourhood. So cool, that you will have to dress formally if you do not want to be out of place. Yes, this is the price for enjoying one of the most stunning views of the emblematic Madrid's Gran Via. Palacio Cibeles is a bar where you will be served the most elegant and chic gin tonics of the capital. The perfect moment for visiting the terrace is at sunset, when night falls and the lights of the square are turned on, with the statue and its fountain as the backdrop of the urban landscape.
Last but not least, it is one of the great roof terraces of the city and one of the oldest ones. We could say it is a ground-breaking terrace in offering drinks and dancing over Madrid's roofs. It is located on San Jeronimo Street, and it is pure glamour and style. Beautiful people come here to show off, and ordinary people come to savour their drinks, which are one of the best ones you can enjoy in a roof terrace in Madrid. The music is very acceptable and the ambiance, except for some moments, is quite good and relaxing. It offers gourmet tapas. Prices are anything but affordable.
