One of the most popular tourist cities in the world, Bangkok is a thriving hub of many lures. And in order to enjoy the best of the city it's wise to arm yourself with an extra bit of knowledge.
Bangkok is quite alluring all year round. It is a tropical haven for tourists hankering for some fun in the sun; however if you do want to avoid the immense heat try booking a holiday avoiding the month of April, for this is when the hottest weather hits the city of Angels. Extreme rain can be expected in October and should be a warning to those of you who are not fans of splashing around muddy roads.
Bangkok is undoubtedly a shopaholic's haven. Loads of retail therapy is available at varied venues. For high end designer shopping head over to the EM District located on popular Sukhumvit Road which is walking distance from the Anantara Baan Rajprasong Bangkok Serviced Suites. This is the city's most elegant looking mall that offers much more than retail shopping; there's a rooftop garden, skywalks and a 100m rainforest chandelier. Equally luxurious are the confines of Central Embassy and Siam Paragon where fine dining is offered along with designer shopping.
Nothing beats Chatuchak Market for snagging all kinds of bargains. The weekend market is where you have over 8000 stalls to browse through while negotiating and bargaining for goods. Boasting over 200,000 visitors over a single weekend the market is one of the city's biggest lures and is best explored in the early hours of the day. Likewise the Platinum Fashion Mall offers great bargains similar to Chatuchak, but indoors. The place is home to over 1,300 stores and is walking distance from the Chidlom BTS Skytrain station. A place that one can easily access while enjoying the immense freedom of staying at one of the well placed serviced apartments Bangkok has to offer.
Treat the foodie in you to a varied range of cuisine in Bangkok. Chinatown or Yaowarat is considered the birthplace of Thai street food and certainly does not disappoint. Yaowarat Street is the most popular street food venue, although the city is inundated with many little alleys housing street food stalls such as around Silom Road and the Wang Lang Market. Some must try tit bits include Thai Stay which is meat wrapped around a bamboo skewer and dipped in peanut sauce while stick rice with mango is hard to resist. If you are out for classier dining head over to Soi Thonglor and the Chao Phraya River area home to Bangkok's top gourmet restaurants.
Bangkok offers a varied mix of accommodation from the super luxurious to budget hotels. If it is a spot of luxury you crave try the resorts located around the CBD, Silom, Siam, Ratchadamri, Chao Phraya and Wireless Road. The most popular are the Bangkok luxury serviced suites where travellers can move to their own schedule in a city where shopping and dining are immense attractions.
