Essentials for a Beach Picnic -A quick guide to picnics in Maldives

What better way to spend some quality time with the family, than a picnic at the beach. Here is a checklist for you to pack, to make sure you enjoy your outing to the fullest.

1

Drinking water

There is nothing like being under the hot sun for you to appreciate the importance of hydration. This is a must have whether you are having a romantic picnic for two, or a family picnic. The sun, the sweat, and the salty breeze are sure to leave you parched and wanting plenty of hydration. So pack plenty of water, this makes a better hydrant than frizzy drinks. If you have kids who are fussy with water, carry the water in attractive bottles that they can sip from while playing.

2

Swimsuits and change of clothes

A change of clothes is not really necessary if you are strolling down the beach at one of Maldives family hotels for the picnic. In that case, you can always walk down in your swimsuit and return to the hotel to change. However, if that is not the case, then in addition to swimwear, it is best if you pack a spare set of clothes because the sand, sweat, and salty waters will all demand that you change out of your initial clothing when making the return journey.
When packing the swimsuits, be wary of the sort of beach you are on. If it is a private beach that is the property of the villa or resort you are staying at, attire will not be an issue. If you are travelling to a beach that is away from your accommodation, comfortable and classy is the way to go, as you can never be too sure of what you will encounter.

3

Sunscreen

The importance of sunscreen is one thing that need not be described. Spending hours in the sun can take a toll on even the most hardened skin. Not only will a thick coat of sunscreen protect you against angry, red skin, but it will also help you get a clear tan. In this day and age, exposure of naked skin to the sun could result even in dermatological diseases. So carry a tub of sunscreen, and apply liberally once every couple of hours, and after you have had your salty swim.

4

Bug repellent

Even if you do not run screaming at the sight of a creepy crawlie, it is essential that you pack bug repellent. Being in a foreign land, you might not really know what insect bites you, and your little ones may be allergic to. Instead of finding it out the hard way, and potentially ruining your entire vacation, it would be easier to carry a bug repellent with you so you can enjoy your picnic leisurely.

5

First aid kid

While as adults you may not feel the need of one, it is best to take one with you in the case of an emergency. If you stay at a place such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas where they have babysitting facilities, you can leave your kids there and go on a romantic picnic; but the chances are that the kids will want to join. Having kids around, it goes without saying, demands that you are prepared for any and all eventualities. Make sure that in addition to the usual medicine you take antihistamines and a common anti-allergy shot. You never know what your little one may suddenly develop an allergy to.
