The cluster of sun-bleached islands has been described as one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world. Here are a few things to put on your list of things to do in the Maldives.
It comes as no surprise that some of the most popular excursions in Maldives include snorkelling and diving. Here, you will find some of the best dive sites in the world and among them Manta Point. Visit Manta Point during the southwest monsoon to see large numbers of manta rays descending on the reef and waiting to be cleaned by colourful wrasses. You may also be able to observe hawksbill turtles and white-tip reef sharks.
You will find different types of treatments at the islands' spas; like traditional healing techniques that have been perfected in the East. Locally sourced products like coconut and beach sand are also used in these treatments. Ancient Ayurvedic healing methods are widely used as well. Try skin health rejuvenating treatment at the in-house spa of resorts such as Adaaran Select Meedhupparu.
Which are located side by side, inside Sultan Park on the island of Male. Sultan Park was once a popular urban park with well-kept lawns, lush local flora and tranquil ponds. The building housing the museum and gallery is the last existing structure of the Royal Palace. The National Museum is a reflection of Maldivian history and culture. The National Art Gallery was founded to collect and promote quality local art. The facility is currently expanding its collection.
The Maldives also offers several world class surfing breaks. These surf spots are divided into three areas that each has unique characteristics: the Male Atolls, the Central Atolls and the South Atolls. Male experiences the best waves between April and October when south swells are peaking. The Central Atolls are best visited from June through to September, while the South Atolls promise the best surfing conditions from February to April and September to November.
Some of the most magical of sunsets can be observed in the Maldives, with fiery skies lighting up the wide open ocean. Set sail on a traditional Maldivian Dhoni and sip a glass of champagne as you watch the sun sinking below the horizon. If you prefer a more luxurious experience you can take a sunset cruise on a luxury boat. A number of cruises offer on-board entertainment as well as food and drink.
You can enjoy some truly spectacular dining experiences that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. The Maldives is home to the very first underwater restaurant in the world. The compact space seats less than twenty and boasts an underwater wine cellar. If the underwater setting is not to your liking, there are plenty of over-water restaurants with breathtaking ocean views.
