The western coast of Sri Lanka is closest to the international airport. One of the main towns along this belt is cosmopolitan Negombo. Chillaw too is a sleepy little town offering sandy beaches and a collection of beach hotels. Galle is a town located along the southern coast of Sri Lanka; it is a town well known for its historical heritage. The most domineering landmark in Galle is the Old Dutch Fort which is a treasured UNESCO World Heritage Site. Galle is home to sandy beaches as well as spots of rocky outcrops. There you can watch as fishermen bring in their fresh catch and tour the ancient sites.
Bentota by far is the most famous of all southern resort towns. Bentota hotels are popular and in full demand especially during the summer months. Bentota is a fishing town too that has grown in leaps and bounds as a chic tourist hub. Places like Bentota Beach by Cinnamon are easily reached via the southern expressway which will take you from Colombo to Bentota in under an hour. Look forward to wide open skies, lazing the day away on sandy stretches of beach, swimming, diving, water skiing and fishing within the warm Indian Ocean while banana boating, jet skiing and feasting on succulent seafood at the many laidback restaurants of Bentota are on the cards, if you choose to holiday within this sunny resort. Nightlife in Bentota too is quite hip with many of the Bentota resort hotels and clubs and bars of the town offering quality entertainment, dancing, food and drinks.
Arugam Bay is located along the Eastern belt of the island. Resurfacing after being hidden under the ravages of a civil war Arugam Bay is loved for its pristine beaches and lazy vibes. Also favoured for its surfing potential Arugam Bay is ideal for a beach holiday of rest and relaxation.
Unawatuna is a laid back village that is situated about 5kms from Galle. The village of Unawatuna is favoured for its crescent shaped beach that skirts around the glistening bay. The beach is backed by verdant forest where an ancient temple and monkeys are found.
