Illusion tulle, beautiful blooms and daring low backs were some of our favourite bridal trends this year, which have again found their way into the stunning bridal looks of 2017. But the latest Spring designs also brought us into new territory, boasting romantic off-the-shoulder gowns, brilliant bows and a refreshing colour palette. We’ve listed the top bridal wear trends from the Spring 2017 collections – which are your favourites?
2017 is definitely the year for the décolletage, as plunging necklines were the staple of nearly every collection. Minimal, form-fitting dresses were made sexier and sleek with deep V bodices, tapering in to a structured waist. Add glamour to your wedding gown with sparkling embroidery or keep it softly feminine like this Essense number with delicate lace detailing.
Both understated and bolder designs graced the Spring 2017 catwalks with feature ‘dare to bare’ shoulders. Textured voluminous ball gowns dripping with flowers, classic draped sheath gowns and short-and-sweet dresses alike took on an elegant appeal with relaxed off the shoulder cuffs. This was a popular trend for ready-to-wear designers so it’s no surprise that it’s also a big one for bridal wear. Opt for an off the shoulder design with sheer fabric for an ethereal look. This St Patrick by Pronovias lace dress with a wider shoulder band is a sophisticated take on the trend.
Again the bridal scene took inspiration from ready-to-wear catwalks for their Spring 2017 collections, with the introduction of chic bridal bomber jackets and flowing capelets. These stylish toppers are the perfect cover-up and can add interest to a simplistically sleek gown. Brides-to-be can try out an intricately embroidered cropped jacket – Rembo’s sheer one would be perfect in the spring weather – or add drama with a long and draping cape.
Petite key hole cut outs were a strong trend in 2016 collections and daring brides of 2017 are set to take the trend to a new level. But don’t worry, the designs are sophisticated, with cut out features giving the 2017 wedding dresses a slightly more modern touch. We love the timelessly grand Paloma Blanca gown with a cut out back and trailing button detailing at the back.
An even more modern approach to bridal wear, some 2017 collections presented slick trouser suits and ultra-glam jumpsuits. If you’re not a fan of traditional weddings gowns, bridal trouser get-ups are a definite yes on the style charts. Trouser looks are very versatile - keep your styling minimal for a grown-up appeal or become the queen of glamour with opulent accessories and a bold lip.
In addition to large floral blooms, big bows gave a pretty charm to many of the wedding dresses in the Spring 2017 collections, whilst also creating an impressive statement. Enormous bows were placed around the bodice, in the centre or to one side, to accentuate a tiny waist. We also saw bow motifs tie up figure-hugging dresses at the neck and emphasise extravagant mermaid tails. For a less overt statement, choose a gown like this elegant So Sassi dress, with a smaller feature waist bow at the back.
This year off-tones of champagne and white gold were popular amongst brides, and colourful dresses are continuing into stunning looks for 2017. This time, it’s all about light and dreamy pastel shades – pinks, blues and pale emeralds. Rose is the star colour for the season, as with this beautifully romantic ruffled Pronovias gown. Why not try something a little different and embody spring with these pretty pastel colours?
