Nokugcina Elsie Mhlophe (born 1958) is a well-known South African freedom fighter, activist, actor, storyteller, poet, playwright, director and author. Storytelling is a deeply traditional activity in Africa and Mhlophe is one of the few woman storytellers in a country dominated by males. Why do you think that storytelling is such an important part of our heritage?
Sylvaine Strike is a South African actress, writer and theater director. She was born in Pretoria and studied in Cape Town, where she graduated with a Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama in 1993.
Paul Slabolepsky writes often comic or satirical work that comments on the South African situation. Do you think comedy is an effective way to tackle issues that we face in our country?
Deon Opperman's career as a playwright, director and producer
of theatre and television began in 1984. Since then he
has written, directed and produced over fifty theatre productions
in both Afrikaans and English in every major theatre and at
every major festival in South Africa. He has also produced,
directed and written extensively for television.
