Innovative storage solutions for libraries

We are still a nation of library users. Libraries have changed and updated with the times we live in. They now have cafes, plentiful internet access and media sections and are often no longer the sacred, quiet sanctuary they once were. Along with this progression, the modern library has had to ensure that the type of storage solution they use is modern, fully equipped and able to adapt to further changes and growth. These are the essential requirements of any good library storage solution:

Built to last

Built to last

We expect our libraries to be there for us. They are part of our everyday lives and with this longevity it makes sense that the infrastructure and the fixtures and fittings are built to last. Shelving and storage must be of a high quality, able to deal with constant use and large quantities and densities of books and other media. Shelves in a library are a different proposition to home shelving and need to be robust, safe and durable.

High density

Libraries have so much information. In order to ensure they cater for everyone they really need to make the best use of the space that they have. High density storage and shelving is essential.

3

Mobility is important

The modern library has to be adaptable, and often public libraries make the most of their space by renting out areas for private use such as for clubs to meet or for children's parties. This is made possible by the use of innovative mobile storage- shelving can be moved quickly and easily by one member of the team along track and brought back when required.

Archiving Areas

Not all of the stock a library holds is on display to the public. Much of the information held is out of sight, as stock gets rotated, and older, more precious items are kept in safe and secure areas. The storage solution for achieved materials is equally important to that which is on display, requiring easy access.
