Yangon is one of the nation's most popular cities. Apart from its many impressive attractions, Yangon is also a great location for shopping, and these are Yangon's top shopping options.
Located on Bogyoke Aung San Road, the Bogyoge Aung Shopping Market is the most popular market place on Yangon. Also known as Scott Market, this local market boasts the right to call itself the oldest existing local market in Yangon since the market was constructed way back in 1926, and has still withstood the test of time. Housing close to 1,700 stores, the Bogyoge Aung Shopping Market has almost anything you will want – handicrafts, fresh produce, clothes, shoes, cheap electronics, metal ware, fabrics, hardware, and even food stuffs. Thus, despite its humble beginnings, Bogyoge Aung Shopping Market is now the pulse of Yangon's shopping scene.
Taw Win Centre is located in the Dagon Township and is the latest addition to the shopping scene of Yangon. This large shopping complex has five stories which house hundreds of stores selling both local and international products and brands. Much like with any other shopping complex, Taw Win Centre also has entertainment and food courts, making it a great place to spend the whole day shopping. This shopping complex is known for being a good place to shop for clothes, electronics, jewelry, furniture, and books (it is said that the Taw Win Centre book store is the largest bookstore in Myanmar). The Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon is one of the most elegant Yangon hotels to accommodate yourself in.
Yuzana Plaza is what you get when you fuse an old shopping mall with a traditional market. This not-so-glitzy shopping mall is located on Banyar Dala Street, but don't let its shabby appearance fool you, for it is a great place to get some shopping down. The lower floors of this plaza are dedicated to stores that sell a variety of things on wholesale. If you are not interested in buying wholesale; head up to the upper floors where you will find many stores selling locally manufactured electronics, textiles and fashion, which you can snatch up for some pretty reasonable prices.
Yangoods is somewhat the unofficial souvenir store of Yangon, as its unique products and handicrafts are fast gaining a reputation of being of great quality. One can expect to find small bags, cushion covers, trinket boxes, stationary, jewelry, laptop cases, and many other unique items at Yangoods, almost all of which have a Myanmar cultural feel about them; hence the reason why Yangoods is widely considered to be one of the best souvenir shops. So if you need to get something for you to take back home to remember your travels to Myanmar, Yangoods is the place to go.
The Sein Gay Har Super Centre is much like the Taw Win Centre, but what sets these two shopping centers apart is the fact that you are more likely to get cheaper prices as Sein Gay Har Super Centre. The shopping centre has, for a long time, been known for being a reliable place for buying electronics, cell phones, shoes, and cosmetics. The large supermarket at Sein Gay Har Shopping Centre is also rather popular.
Blazon Shopping Centre s synonymous with upscale shopping in Yangon, as this classy three-storied shopping centre has been at the heart of branded retail shopping since its construction in the year 2000. With stores selling Wacoal, ADIDAS, Esprit, and GUESS, Blazon Shopping Centre is fully worth a visit.
