Ways to Take Care of Your Forklift Tires

Forklift tires are commonly used in machines which perform heavy duties. It's essential that you take very good care of your forklift tires to ensure longevity & safety.

1

Choosing the right tyre

First things first, tires you choose for industrial purposes must be of good quality for good quality tires are bound to serve you longer. Since the wear and tear of industrial tires are usually higher than ordinary tires its advisable that you opt for a well known tyre brand. Brands like GRI Tires are made of high quality materials and ensure better performance of your solid tyres. Choosing the right tire not only means that you need to settle for a good brand but also such choosing should be in par with the particular use. When determining the right tyre you need to consider aspects of; required load which needs to be carried, how often it will be used & the different surfaces the forklift will run over. Determining such factors will enable you to pick the right tyre.

2

Load and inflation pressure

Its imperative that forklifts are regularly checked for air pressure. This is an important factor as a tire with poor air pressure certainly poses a higher risk to human life, property & materials alike. Usually, it’s advised that air pressure of forklift tires are checked every month. Doing so will make sure that your tires are used with precaution which in return will help in using such tires for a longer period of time. When checking for air pressure do keep in mind never to lower the air pressure by bleeding for bleeding air can build up heat significantly. Another good practise whilst checking for air pressure is to cover all valves with caps to prevent any outside particles getting inside.

Solid tyres for forklifts

Solid tyres are usually the most often used tyre type for forklifts for they do not puncture or go flat and last a long time. Tires such as these are not in need of any air pressure checks since they dont contain air and allow users to use higher load. However, whether your tire has air or not good tire practises are a must.

3

Proper Driving

Though this factor is very subjective it places great responsibility in the driver’s hands. Its essential to stick to good driving habits if you intend to get the best use of your tires. Drivers must pay attention to refraining from spinning, sudden starting or sudden breaking movements. Forklift tires also are known to wear out sooner when during high speed cornering & locking one wheel for sharp turns. Do steer clear from unhealthy driving practises to optimize accurate tire usage.

4

Storing Tyres

Do make sure that your tires are not stored for longer than a few months. Electric engines should be kept afar from forklift tires at all times for it can cause some disturbance to the composition of the tire. If and when you store your forklift tires follow good storing practises such as storing them in a dark, cool, dirt/oil free area. Do remember that if you require your tires to perform well for you then you will have to make sure that you treat them right!
