Best Surf Spots in Maldives – Ripping Maldives’ Awesome Waves

The archipelago of Maldives has long been known as one of South Asia's best coastal destinations. The islands are also renowned for being great for surfing and following are Maldives' best surf spots;

1

Chickens

Chickens

Chickens is one of the Maldives' best known surfing spots and is even considered by some surfing pro's to be among the best in the world. Located among the Male Atolls, on a good day the swells and waves at the Chickens are simply exhilarating! With mild winds and great climate, this surf spot makes for countless hours of ripping those thunderous Indian Ocean waves. Be warned, however, that Chickens is not for beginners; its best left for surfers with at least average experience.

Lohi's

Lohi's

Lohi's, also located in the Male Atolls, is known for its perfect surfing conditions. During the peak season the left-hander waves at Lohi's can get pretty intense giving surfers a real challenge! Complemented by the north-east and north-west breeze, Lohi's is also known for forming long hollow barreling waves giving surfers the perfect wave to rip through. Lohi's is also the site of the annual WQS O'Neill Deep Blue'.

Muli

Muli

Located on the Central Atolls, Muli is unique because its waves break in two ways; F1 and Mushroom. F1, or Muli Inside, produces rapid right-hander barreling waves, while Mushroom, or Muli Outside, is known for its right-handers that get some pretty impressive swell. This variety makes for exhilarating surfing, making Muli one of the surfing spots that you must check out.

4

Tsunami's

Tsunami's

As its name suggests, the waves here can be pretty swell. Tsunami's is considered to be the surf spot that gathers the most swell in the Laamu Atoll. Large waves with a right-hand angle make Tsunami's a great place to surf, especially since the waves here contain all three sections; a mighty barrel at the start, a solid and turning wall in the middle, and another smaller barrel at the end – talk about a perfect wave! A great hotel to accommodate yourself while engaging in Maldives waters sports is the luxury Anantara Veli Maldives Resort.

5

Voodoos

Voodoos

This surf spot in the South Atolls has gained a reputation for being a spot which attracts waves, swells, and tides of all sizes. Plus, the fact that this surf spot is available during all the seasons, it is also reliable. During the peak season, however, Voodoos can be thrilling, as 6ft tall right-handers barrel down the reef making it the ideal place for some thrilling surfing sessions.

6

Cokes

Cokes

Located in close proximity to the Island of Thulusdhoo, this surf spot is known for its flawless hollow and tube-shaped waves. Recommended for those with some experience under their belts, the Cokes surf spot attracts a lot of swell in the season, creating some pretty impressive waves. No doubt the swell here is a bit challenging, but then again what fun would it be if it weren't challenging? At least that's what the regulars of Cokes have to say...

7

Mahibadhoo

Mahibadhoo

Mahidadhoo has been called "pure perfection" in the right swell conditions. Waves here have three sections; the outside, the inside, and the centre, all of which are presented together in the same wave in the right conditions! This gives surfers an amazing opportunity of ripping through these different sections in just one session. It really doesn't get any better than that! Unfortunately, this Central Atoll surf spot has, most of the time, very low waves and the strong currents that make surfing next to impossible. But if you catch Mahibadhoo on a good day you are in for one heck of a treat!
