Model Based Systems Engineering Resources

Resources and references for MBSE.

Tim Weilkiens list of crowd ranked most popular tools. Helpful to see what is out there and how practitioners rank them.

Leanpub

Thomas Killian is an active contributor on the Enterprise Architect Forums and I have found his comments and books helpful to get up and going quickly. If you are using EA, these books are helpful.

Working since mid 1970 in the IT industry. Having gone through development and management in almost all industries (international but based in Germany). Currently focused on UML based projects (Embedded Systems/SysML, SOA, BPM). Using (and dissecting) EA since 2003 (version 3.5) until today (version 12.0).

Bellekens

If you are using EA and active on the forums you have probably recieved a response from Geert, who is one of the domain experts who is responsive to help, has contributions to crowd sourced EA resources and recommendations to modeling practices. Check out his blog.

The Unified Modeling Language

A good quick reference for UML if you are looking for examples, comparing and contrasting aspects of UML, and references to the specification.

The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a standard visual modeling language to document business processes and software architecture using several types of diagrams - use case diagrams, class, package, component, composite structure diagrams, deployments, activities, interactions and profiles. The site provides graphical notation reference and examples of all types of UML diagrams.

UML Bible

Of all the books I reviewed I found the section on MOF of this book most helpful.

The UML Bible uses a case study modeling the features of a Theater System. Take a look at the analysis level models in either PDF format or the original MagicDraw 7.0 files found on the download page.

Good and complete walk through of creating an UML Profile. Helpful for someone who wants to better understand via a step-by-step process.

Whitepaper covering MDA topics. Helpful for those looking for a reasonably lighter amount of text explaining the concepts of MDA.

Notation and detailed write-up for architecture decisions.

INCOSE paper on MLM for MBSE.
