Fun 1st Grade Science Lessons

The Science4Us curriculum is a complete, standards-based, core science curriculum that delivers digital and real-world science experiences using the 5E's to kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade students.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

The Tools module introduces students to the tools scientists use for both qualitative and quantitative observations. Students learn to use tools such as their 5 senses, rulers, and balance scales through hands-on activities.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

In the States of Matter module, students further explore the concept that anything on earth that has mass and takes up space is matter. This module introduces students to solids, liquids and gases, the three most common states of matter on earth, and the unique properties used to characterize each phase.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

Science4Us begins the study of matter with everyday objects that students are comfortable with. The Materials and Mixtures module begins the unit. Students explore everyday objects they know like recyclables and identify objects made of wood, cloth, plastic and metal.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

In the Light Energy module, students learn that light energy is the energy that allows them to see the matter around them. Through interactive lesson and activities, students explore the differences between natural and man-made light.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

The Sound Energy module allows students to experiment with energy that can be heard when matter is present to carry the vibration. Students learn about pitch, volume, and vibration as they explore and watch different methods of making sound.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

Though every kindergarten student may know that magnets can be used to hold school artwork on the fridge, they may not know the many other uses for magnets there are. In the Magnets module students will learn about tiny and huge magnets that are used every day. Students will also learn to predict which objects a magnet will attract and test those predictions through interactive activities. The Silly Bulls game allows students to practice with the vocabulary they are learning so that they can use scientific terms to describe their explorations with magnets.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

The Weather module allows students to explore Earth’s ordinary and extreme weather in safety. Activities include using the weather information to decide what an online character should wear and learning about how to stay safe during extreme weather.

Elementary Science:Online, Interactive, Standards-Based

The Plants module familiarizes students with the ways in which plants meet the four characteristics of living things. Students learn the parts and functions of plants and even invent their own plant in an illustrated online activity. They learn how plants meet their needs for food, water, air, and a place to live.
