Most Popular Thai Foods in Bangkok – Relish the Exotic Flavours

Thai food is loved for its correct balance of flavour, spices and aroma. When in Bangkok you can treat your taste buds to a delicious range of mouth-watering Thai Food such as the dishes below.

1

Tom Yum Goong

This is one of the most popular Thai soups you will come across in Bangkok. It is a classic that has many variations across South East Asia. The Thai version of Tom Yum can be quite spicy so watch out and request a milder version. The main ingredients in Tom Yum Goong are fresh straw mushrooms and juicy prawns. The rest adds loads of body, fragrance and sharp flavour; these are shallots, galangal, lime leaves, lemongrass, chilli and fish sauce. The end result is a hot, spicy and sour dish that is simply exotic.

2

Som Tum

Som Tum is a spicy green papaya salad; which will either appeal very well to you or be just a tad too spicy. The flavour is a rounded spicy, salty and sweet essence; this is obtained by crushing cherry tomatoes, green beans, garlic and shredded raw papaya in a traditional mortar and pestle. There are various takes on this salad and you will be able to choose from Som Tum with shrimp, salted crab or peanuts.

Tom Kha Kai

This dish features chicken in coconut soup. It is in fact a less fiery version of the ever popular Tom Yum soup. Tom Kha Kai consists of chillies, crushed shallots, galangal, lemon grass and very thin strips of chicken. To this a good dollop of thick coconut milk is added which while adding loads of body to the soup lends it a delicious flavour and aroma; it also lessens the fiery essence of the chilli. If you frequent a 5 star hotel in Bangkok a luxuriously rich version of this soup will be available. The top resorts in Bangkok offer the best dining experience together with comfortable accommodation and themed restaurants; offering an all-day dining restaurant is the Le Méridien Suvarnabhumi, Bangkok Golf Resort & Spa.

4

Gaeng Daeng

Gaeng Daeng also known as red curry is a very delicious dish made up of meat, rich coconut milk and red curry paste. It is served with tangy Kaffir lime leaves sprinkled on top. The best of these are served with extremely tender meat, making it a dish you will keep going back for.

Pad Thai

Pad Thai is stir fried noodles. This is one of the most famous fast food staples throughout the country and it is indeed delicious. You can choose from thin, flat or wide noodles; these are dropped into a hot wok and given a quick stir fry together with fresh bean sprouts, eggs and onion.
