The Worst Number One Songs of the 21st Century - So Far

The rap hit "Panda" by newcomer Desiigner is the new #1 song in America, according to Billboard magazine's Hot 100 singles list. And the song is pretty bad, unless you're under 25, and don't mind rappers that mumble their way through incoherent lyrics about cars that look like pandas.

Otherwise, "Panda" is one of the worst #1 songs in recent memory. But is it the worst of the 21st century?

I've attempted to answer that question by ranking what I consider the 25 worst #1 songs of the past 16 years and five months. You'll be surprised to see some of the most popular artists of the day whose duds made this countdown.

Now there are only two criteria for inclusion on this list:

  1. The songs had to be #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 between January 2000 and today (May 2016). There are 203 songs that have done this.

  2. They had to suck...badly! (at least half of those 203 songs met this criterion)

So here they are, the 25 Worst Number One Songs of the 21st Century...listed by song title, artist (and month the song first reached #1 in parenthesis).

25. Party Rock Anthem - LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett and GoonRock (July 2011).

This rowdy electronic dance music track came from an album called 'Sorry For Party Rocking'. I wish Redfoo and SkyBlu had realized the error of their ways BEFORE they put out this noisy club-banger.

Hi, I'm DJ Rob, owner and author of the music blogsite djrobblog.com. I live in Chicago, IL and have been doing the blogsite since January 2015. It features articles about music news, history and trivia - both old and new. The features I enjoy doing the most are my djroblists. I've done dozens of lists ranking everything from blue-eyed soul singers to Prince's greatest songs. I only recently started converting them to listly to increase interaction with my readers. Take some time to enjoy them and let me know what you think! And check out djrobblog.com when you can!
