Fotteyo Kandu – Vaavi Atoll

This is a top rated dive site favoured for its abundance of colourful coral and marine life. Adding to this are the fascinating overhangs, caves and 'swim-through's' Fotteyo Kandu is blessed with. As you head further down you will be rewarded with sights of soft yellow and black coral bushes. Watch out for sights of grey reef sharks, tuna, jack and the amazing schools of snapper fish. There is a 'Thila' in the middle of the channel which is recommended as the ideal spot for a safety stop.

Kuredu Express – Lhaviyani Atoll

The strong current flowing through this channel is the cause for the spot being named Kuredu 'Express'. You do not have to work much but simply cruises along the current at any one of the terraces located there and take in the marvellous sights of barracuda, eagle rays, sting rays, reef sharks and tuna as they swim by. Manta Rays are known to frequent this channel.

Kandooma Thila is a teardrop shaped point that draws a huge array of marine life. The walls are beautifully habituated by large groups of colourful coral which are frequented by schools of big eye trevally and red bass. The thila is also frequented by eagle rays, grey sharks and white tipped sharks. You could swim to the surface for your safety stop and also admire the wandering batfish and green turtles. Diving in Maldives is quite a treat especially around the South Male Atoll; the best way to do the rounds is by booking into a Maldives resort located right on the atoll. Close to Kandooma Thila is the Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort.

Okobe Thila – North Male Atoll

Okobe Thila – North Male Atoll

Okobe Thila consists of three main points; these vary in depth from 30 feet to 165 feet. There is a regular current present around the site which generally has divers twisting up and around the place. Marine life to spot are white tip reef sharks, banner fish and tuna.

This is one of the more interesting dive sites; the place is divided by a large underwater canyon. Head on down to the canyon and you will be rewarded with beautiful sights of large fan corals, moray eels, scorpion fish, Napoleon Wrasse and turtles.

Kudarah Thila is a marine protected region. The place is home to a small reef housing lots of soft coral. There is a variety of marine life for you to spot while the most unique aspect of the thila is the presence of an arch and huge overhang. Remember to take along an underwater torch for better visibility.
