Your High Pressure Water Jetting Questions Answered

The vast majority of people don’t give a second thought to the network of sewers which run beneath their feet. But what happens when the sewers become blocked? Years’ worth of cooking fat and baby wipes can accumulate in the pipework, which can lead to all sorts of problems. It’s down to specialist teams to clear the blockages, with high pressure water jetting being one of the key solutions. Let’s take a look at the most commonly asked water jetting questions:

1

My sewer contains unwanted concrete which is causing a blockage, can water actually remove this?

My sewer contains unwanted concrete which is causing a blockage, can water actually remove this?

Yes, our jetting units can provide water pressures of between 2,000psi and 10,000psi, at a variety of water volumes. This extremely high pressure can easily blast away encrusted or hard materials such as concrete with no problem. As well as removing concrete, high pressure water jetting can also cut through tree roots, which commonly grow through sewer pipes.

2

I have a blockage in a very narrow pipe, how can you clear this?

Our equipment can be operated on pipes which are as narrow as 32mm, meaning that even delicate pipework can be cleared easily using water jetting. We can also turn the water pressure down, meaning that the pipework will not be damaged by a high volume of water being pumped through it to clear the blockage.

3

Why is water jetting preferable to other methods?

High pressure water jetting features a number of benefits. Primarily, it is favoured because it is chemical free. Inevitably the contents of the sewer will be pumped through to another part of the sewer system before entering into the natural water cycle, so it’s vitally important that we don’t add any other chemical substances to the water during this time. It’s also very cost effective, and is far cheaper than the alternative of digging up the pipework to carry out repairs.

How can you identify the exact position of the blockage?

How can you identify the exact position of the blockage?

At AB Pipelines we use advanced CCTV survey and inspection techniques which allow us to detect the precise location of the problem. We do this using a robotic CCTV unit which investigates the pipework and reports back to our diagnostic machinery. Our team are then able to carry out the high pressure water jetting at the exact location of the blockage to provide a swift and efficient clearance service.
