Cosmopolitan Hong Kong is home to fabulous live entertainment venues that range from outdoor to cosy pub scenes. Enjoy an evening of good music at any one of the following venues.
Kung Chi Sing holds a brilliant concert of diverse music outside the Hong Kong Arts Centre. The concert takes place on one Saturday of the month and will run from 6.30 pm to 9.00 pm. The eclectic mix of music includes punk, jazz, indie rock, Mozart and Cantonese opera. All acts are professional and offer good quality entertainment. The Canton Singing House is the oldest amongst Hong Kong's singing halls. You will love the vintage decor that almost looks like a movie set; it is decorated with glistening shrines and dazzling mirror balls. A single session will feature over 20 singers and each one you will notice garners their own fan following. It is traditional to tip the singer if you like a song; this is done by slipping the money into a wooden box. If you fancy a place in the spotlight a mere HK$ 100 or so will let you get up on stage and sing a song.
Located within a former warehouse, Hidden Agenda is the best place to catch continuous Indie music. The chic and laid back interiors enhance the elusive ambiance the place strives to exude. You will find Hidden Agenda is located just a blocks walk from the MTR.
You may not have to scour websites for good music acts if you choose a contemporary Hong Kong hotel; for the modern resorts offer excellent tourist advise on venues for enjoying some evening entertainment. Wan Chai may be an excellent location in which to base yourself for easy access to not just the live music events but also the many shops and restaurants of Hong Kong; the Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong is in Wan Chai.
Live Jazz is presented at this venue six nights a week. Both local and international artists get up on the small stage at the Peel Fresco to bring you excellent Jazz performances. The décor consisting of fake Renaissance style paintings will set the mood for enjoying a smooth evening of nothing but Jazz. The venue starts its performances by 9.30 pm and it is best to be in your seats by 9 pm.
The Fringe Club is located within a lovely 1892 Victorian style building. It is most popular for rock, jazz and world music. Sitting at the edge of Lan Kwai Fong the cosy little theatre puts up excellent local and international acts.
The Senses 99 is a two floor WWII building that is decorated as a mid-century residence. Enjoy the relaxed ambiance complete with folding screens and distressed couches. Musical performances start after 10 pm, but if you get there before head over to 3rd floor and join in a 'jam' session or have a go at the electric guitar or drum set.
