Attractions In Koh Phangan – A Different Side Of Thailand

Beautiful beaches, tranquil vistas and powder soft sand are all evident attractions of Koh Phangan. It's also home to twenty temples, major waterfalls and many more attractions to look forward to.

1

Ang Thong National Marine Park

Ang Thong National Marine Park

This is a pristine archipelago of forty-two islands in the Gulf of Thailand. The park covers a protected area of 100 square kilometers of land and sea. One of Thailand’s most scenic and unique islands, Ang Thong translates to ‘Golden Basin’. The diversity of exotic wildlife, spectacular sea creatures, a stunning beach and an inland saltwater lagoon are all part of this picturesque park. Snorkelling, diving, sailing, swimming, sea kayaking and soaking up the sun are few of the things you can look forward to doing here. You have a chance of spotting langur monkeys, herons, hair nosed otters, sea turtles, sea eagles, iguanas and pythons when you are at the park. In order to cover the whole park which includes forty-two islands, it usually takes weeks however with limited time you can explore the main islands including Koh Mae which has the best stretch of beach and the Emerald Lake saltwater lagoon.

Kuan Yin Shrine

The temple dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy Kuan Yin is nestled on the mountain road leading to Chalklum Village in Thailand. Known to represent compassion and kindness Goddess Kuan Yin is worshipped by Buddhists and Taoists. Within the compound, you find Chinese style architecture and an elaborate statue of the goddess. You also find an activity hall and two more buildings along with a statue of a laughing Buddha looking out at the ocean. Devotees offer fruits and vegetable while chanting and worshipping the goddess.

Phaeng Waterfall

Phaeng Waterfall

Phaeng is one of Koh Phangan’s grandest waterfalls. To reach the falls, there is a steep 250m walk up a jungle trail, which is worth it once you get there. Another 200m up the path will take you to the mountaintop where the view is breathtaking. If you enjoy hiking or climbing mountains then there is a trail that will lead you up to mountain Khao Ra peak where the view is even better. This is a hike for those who enjoy outdoor activities. If you don’t like a long walk, turn back after you reach the waterfall. When visiting the area, a good choice of accommodation would be Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas as this luxury Resort Koh Phangan is just 40 minutes away from the waterfall.

Laem Son Lake

Laem Son Lake

During hot summer days, relaxing under the shade of the pine trees around the lake is a great way to cool down and chill. You can high dive into the lake from the rope swings hung around the area. Even though people swim in the lake unless you are a strong and experienced swimmer it is better avoided. Fishing is prohibited since Laem Son is a protected area.
