Christ Church

M.R. Kukrit's Home

Of course you have no idea who M R Kukrit is. He was Prime Minister of Thailand from 1974 to 1975. Why him in particular, then? During his tenure, he was a widely discussed politician with journalists gathered at him quite often. His is a beautiful home. The Kukrit 80 Foundation has opened the home to public, and you can take a good look inside the leader's home.

The moment you step inside, you will feel that Kukrit's role could not have been confined to that of a politician. If that was your thinking, you are most certainly right. In addition to being a politician, Kukrit was a poet, painter and writer. The complex, that looks almost like a museum, shelters five teak houses on stilts. They were built according to his wishes, taking about 20 years. These abodes are connected to each other. Each abode is full of artistic items that belongs to Kukrit. The items include ceramics, furniture and the Buddha images. As you move a little further, you will find the library, a large one full of fiction and other genres. A little ahead, you will come across a pavilion that Kukrit used for his public gatherings. The garden outside will make a strong impression in you with its exquisite plants, trees and flowers.
