Nuwara Eliya a chilly little town located at an altitude of 6,128ft. Called Little England it is dotted with English cottages and gorgeous gardens. There's plenty to do and see there as our list suggests.

Visit Worlds End

Located within the Horton Plains National Park the trek to Worlds End lookout point is quite a rewarding endeavour. The trek may take an average of 2 hours; and along the way you are bound to run into magnificent Sambar, jungle fowl and other curious jungle creatures. Horton Plains is protected parkland in Sri Lanka which is located at an altitude of 6,900 to 7,500 feet. It is also the headwater for 3 of the country's major rivers. Horton Plains is famous for Cloud Forests and montane grasslands. It is about an hour's drive from Nuwara Eliya and well worth the trip. Make sure you start your journey early in the morning. Worlds End located within the park takes a 2 hour trek through the forest to reach. It is a 4,000 foot sheer drop. On a clear day you will be able to see the Indian Ocean 81kms away in the southern edge of the island.

Visit the Bluefield's Tea Garden

This beautiful tea estate and factory is located in Ramboda which is on the Kandy Nuwara Eliya Road. It is a lovely break from your drive to or from Nuwara Eliya, while the helpful staff will take you on a through journey of the factory and offer an insightful brief on the manufacturing process. Later you can visit the cosy cafeteria and sink your teeth into pillowy soft butter cake while sipping steaming cups of tea. Black tea is complimentary. There is also a tea shop where you could purchase various types and grades of Ceylon tea.

Enjoy a Day at Lake Gregory

There are plenty of family activities to be done around Lake Gregory. It is also a wonderful environ around which to spend some time in quiet contemplation. Rent out a paddle boat and paddle around the lake, try zip-linning across the grassy fields, get the kids to try a pony ride or sit on a grassy mound and enjoy a strawberry milkshake.

Explore Sita Temple

The Sita Amman Temple in Nuwara Eliya is just 5kms from Nuwara Eliya. The site holds a significant historical relevance to the country; as it was the place that Sita was believed to have been held captive by the demon King of Sri Lanka Ravana.

Visit the Hakkgala Botanical Gardens

The Hakkgala Botanical Gardens are one of a kind in the country. It is home to a variety of trees and plants from around the world; including a variety of orchids and roses. This is a lovely place to spend a wandering about while enjoying the colourful environs.
