Sit in the window looking out, and watch people hurrying by, headed to the Peoples Food Co-op or the Farmers Market. Sit facing in and see people sharing secrets or a pot of tea. Either way you have a view.
Sit on the cafe and sip margaritas or a martini. Or order wine and some savory crepes. Cafe Felix on Main Street is a wonderful place to enjoy the street scene downtown, and I think they still have half off some bottles of wine on Wine Wednesdays.
On a lovely afternoon, you'll see plenty of people - street performers, students, picnickers, sunbathers and more. Some think of this as the focal point for the University of Michigan

Sitting on a planter on Main Street
A sidewalk cafe is nice, but one of those squre planters gives you the most freedom to come and go and see and chat. Plus they are free or pick up a muffin from Mity Nice and enjoy!
At the corner of Liberty and Division, this pocket park has homeless and students, Sonic Lunch in the summertime and protesters other times. You can see students wandering down to Main Street and townies heading up to State Street.
