Shopping in Negombo – Indulge in the shopping spree

Negombo is now established as a tourist hotspot, so you can enjoy a good shopping experience. Even though it does not boast of large shopping malls, it is dotted with a great many small shops.

1

Bookshops

You will be surprised at the number of European fiction available at some of these bookshops. And the difference is that you can probably buy them at a much cheaper rate than in your own country. Bookshops such as Vijitha Yapa and Sarasavi have the ideal bookish environment to browse books in leisure. Although staff is on alert, you won’t have the nuisance of them following behind you all the time as you browse the books. Ranging from fiction to comics, these bookshops offer a large variety of English books. You can also browse the English books written by local authors.

2

Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Exchange

This is a chain of small shops where you can browse the gems discovered in Sri Lanka. This could be a worthwhile trip, as Sri Lanka is known as a land of authentic gems. But better be on your own as much as possible without a tourist guide. And do not let anyone decide the ideal gem for you. Just follow your instinct and check it thoroughly before you make the purchase.

3

Bazaar

As you get to Fort station, this bazaar is located in the west. Most items are priced at a cheap rate, and you will find them fascinating. The Lion beer are exceptionally cheap here. Even though you do not need to buy anything at all, just take a walk in the bazaar. The sellers will probably try to make a sell, as most stalls are built with the purpose of attracting tourists. That said, these sellers will be extra kind at you and even let you check the items before making the purchase. If you stay at a hotel Negombo has to offer such as Club Hotel Dolphin, it will be much easier to reach the bazaar.

4

Crescat Boulevard

Diametrically opposed to Bazaar, this is an upscale shopping mall located close to Cinnamon Grand Hotel. Most items sold here are a little bit expensive as compared with other local items. But quality-wise they are very much reliable.

5

Dilmah Tea Shop

Sri Lanka has earned worldwide reputation for its tea. Run by a family, Dilmah tea shop offers you a wide plethora of tea. Most travellers are already in love with brands such as Dilmah. They treasure the taste as well as the aroma emanating from tea.

6

Arpico

A large shopping mall, Arpico got simply everything what you name. Even if you have forgotten something at home, you do not need to worry as you can easily step in here. Conveniently, you can buy items for a fair price, as the place is not only for the foreigners. If you are looking for household ware or some other item, make sure you step in here or any other local store so that you can have a good purchase for a good price.
