With 800 movies a year, Bollywood is the largest film industry and one of the largest centers of film production in the world. Not only it outshines Hollywood from its vibrant colorful movies and numerous songs which we all love but it is also the house of famous classics which are considered to be a milestones in film industry.

Lagaan

Lagaan

Lagaan is a 2001 Indian epic sports drama film written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Aamir Khan, who was also the producer, stars with Gracy Singh in the lead roles; British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne play the supporting roles. Made on a then-unprecedented budget of INR 250 million (US$4.2 million), the film was shot in an ancient village near Bhuj, India.

Lagaan received critical acclaim and awards at international film festivals, as well as many Indian film awards. It became the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay! (1988). It was one of the biggest box office hits of 2001. In 2010, the film was ranked No. 55 in Empire magazines "The 100 Best Films of World Cinema". In 2011, it was listed in Time magazine's special "The All-TIME 25 Best Sports Movies".

Devdas

Devdas is a 2002 Indian romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novella Devdas. This is the third Hindi version and the first film version of the story in Hindi done in colour.

Devdas was declared a hit in India by Box Office India and won the Filmfare Award for Best Film. The film also won five National Awards and a further nine Filmfare Awards. The film was recently included in Time Magazine's top 10 movies of the millennium worldwide.

The acting was seen by many as the primary factor for the film's success, with Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit all winning Filmfare Awards for their performances. At the time of its release, Devdas was the most expensive Bollywood film ever produced, with a reported budget of Rs 500 million.

3 Idiots is a 2009 Indian coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani, with a screenplay by Abhijat Joshi, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Starring Amir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhvan, Sharman Joshi, this film broke all opening box office records in India.

It was the highest-grossing film in its opening weekend in India and had the highest opening day collections for a Bollywood film. It also held the record for highest net collections in the first week for a Bollywood film.

Dabangg is a 2010 Indian action film, directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz Khan. The lead actors include Arbaaz's elder brother Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. The film marks the debut of Sonakshi as an actress, Arbaaz as a producer and Kashyap as a director. It features Arbaaz Khan, Om Puri, Dimple Kapadia, Vinod Khanna, Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar and Mahie Gill in supporting roles while Sonu Sood plays the main antagonist. Malaika Arora Khan appears in the item number "Munni Badnaam Hui".

It opened to generally positive reviews and broke several box-office records upon release. The film set another box office record, grossing INR 808.7 million in its first week, thus becoming the highest opening week grossing Bollywood film, breaking the previous record of 3 Idiots. Dabangg went on to gross INR 2.15 billion worldwide and Box Office India declared it an all-time blockbuster in the second week of its release. It is the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010 and, as of 2012, the fourth highest–grossing Bollywood film of all time. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a 2011 Indian coming-of-age comedy-drama road film, directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment. The film features an ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan as Arjun, Abhay Deol as Kabir and Farhan Akhtar as Imraan. It also stars Katrina Kaif as Laila, Kalki Koechlin as Natasha, and Ariadna Cabrol as Nuria along with Naseeruddin Shah making a special appearance. Made on a budget of INR550 million (US$9.3 million), the film was shot in Spain, India, Egypt and the UK.

My Name Is Khan is a 2010 Indian drama film directed by Karan Johar, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles. My Name Is Khan's distribution rights were bought by Fox Star Entertainment for a sum of INR100 crore (US$17 million), making it the most expensive Bollywood film of 2010 and also the highest-value buy over for any Indian film, surpassing the previous record of INR90 crore (US$15 million) set by Ghajini.

Dil Chahta Hai is a 2001 Indian coming-of-age comedy-drama filmstarring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta, Sonali kulkarni and Dimple Kapadia.
