With Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding approaching on 19th May 2018, I wanted to share some of my favourite ‘very British’ recipes to create and enjoy on the day. Whether hosting a garden party or just watching at home, here’s 10 ideas that are sure to be a hit!

No picnic is complete without a scotch egg or two. For those of you not in the know, these consist of a hardboiled egg encased in sausage meat and breadcrumbs. Sounds strange, tastes divine!

If you know... you know. Whenever this dessert appears... there is always a debate over how to pronounce the word 'scones'!

From the British queen of baking, Mary Berry, these fruit scones only take around 30 to 40 minutes to prepare & bake. Present the scones on a tiered cake stand and don’t forget to serve with clotted cream and strawberry jam (also known as jelly to US readers).

Eton Mess is essentially a large meringue smashed in to pieces, mixed with strawberries and single or double cream - but the meringue making part can be a little tricky! Ensure the bowl and whisk you use for the egg whites are VERY clean as grease or oil will stop your meringue from rising.

Pimms is another favoured party drink of the Brits, albeit an alcoholic one. It contains 1-part alcohol to 3-parts lemonade but what makes it taste amazing is the added mint, cucumber, orange and strawberries – delicious!

Finger sandwiches are sandwiches made with slides bread which are then cut in to rectangles or triangles – enough to pick up with finger and thumb, funnily enough! This site has many traditional filing from egg and cress to smoked salmon.

Pork pies should be sturdy and packed with meat, although for a more modern twist you could top the meat with sweet caramelised onions which really compliment the salty pork. Fairy cake patty tins work well for creating mini, finger-sized pies!

Victoria sponge is a classic afternoon tea choice which includes fluffy vanilla sponge cake with an inside layer of jam, whipped cream - plus sliced fresh strawberries if you like. For beginners, my tip is to make one large cake for ease, then decorate by putting a paper doily on top, dust over with icing sugar and remove the doily for a pretty lace pattern effect.

Traditional lemonade is not fizzy at all! This recipe is super easy to make and will go down a treat with the children. I prefer to make cloudy lemonade the day before to give the lemons a chance to infuse the water to help tingle the taste buds!

Ever had a cheese and pineapple hedgehog? Some think childish but oh-so-fun! It’s simply cubes of cheese and pineapple or grapes on a cocktail stick which are then wedged in to half a melon or a pineapple, creating a sort of spikey hedgehog looking display. Brits love cheese and are pretty good at making the stuff, so you can’t go wrong with this retro serving suggestion.
