LERN Recreation Member Highlights - Nov. 9

Eagle Parks & Recreation shows a great example of posting useful information for its audience.

Q: WHY IS HELL MARY STILL CLOSED at the Eagle Bike Park?

A: The six high-banked turns that were rebuilt last week were constructed using a very moist base material and a solution that increases structural integrity and reduces erosion. And while the new berms LOOK dry, they are still damp and soft to the core.

Riding these now would crack the dry top layer, leave a rut, and start a breakdown that will destroy two weeks of work and create a even more delay in opening the trail. We need time, sun, and warmth to speed the process along.

We appreciate the respect that riders have shown by staying out of the area. We really do.

Shawnee County Parks + Recreation runs an engaging fan-driven content contest.
