Before You Fly: How to Prepare for Your Holiday

You've finally booked your flights and made the last payments, and now the excitement in anticipation for your holiday can begin! However, there are a few things you should organise in advance, to ensure smooth sailing on the day of departure.

1

Double check your booking

It’s so important to review the details and regulations of your accommodation, flight and any travel needed to get you to and from the airport. You can check your seat assignments online as well as any luggage rules. Check, check and check again the dates and times of your flight, to be sure that everyone knows when they’re going!

2

Plan what you want to see

Although many holiday packages can include organised activities and tours, research things you’d like to do or see, and make sure to look at transportation options. It could be that you’ll need to book activities or restaurants in advance, and check the weather forecast for those days to see if these activities will be feasible so you can decide what to wear.

3

Set out a budget

You’ll need to decide how much cash you’ll want to have with you, and what credit card you’ll bring if you want to use one. Remember to allow extra in your budget for any souvenirs or gratuities for services.

4

Prepare ahead for getting to the airport

Transportation to and from the airport is often left to the last minute, but something which can potentially be very stressful. Call a transfer service company a few weeks ahead of your flight who can easily get you to your destination on time, and help with luggage. A transfer service is ideal for larger groups of people or those who may not have enough space in their own car.

5

Check and assemble the important documents

Print enough copies of the required boarding documents and other useful information about your accommodation. Do you need to complete any paperwork? Review all of your documents to make sure all details are correct before you leave – let your travel agent or the airport line know immediately if anything is incorrect. Find your passport far in advance and keep it safe, so you won’t have to rush around on the day of your flight!

6

Make arrangements for those staying behind

If you have a pet or children staying at home, confirm in advance with their sitters when you’ll be leaving, what they’ll need and any special requirements.

7

Start packing!

Keep a list of everything you need and tick it off as you go along. A good idea is to choose a place in your house as a collection spot for all the items you’ll be taking with you on your holiday, so you'll know exactly where to put it. Remember any crucial items such as medications, sun screen and of course, your camera! #holidaypacking
