I’m just a huge nerd, but I look forward to gym days because I get to listen to my favorite podcast. Yes, I’m the weird person that would rather listen to a well told story while I sweat it out on the treadmill Maybe than have Katie Perry yell about kissing girls in my ear. This American Life is my favorite, and considering it’s one of the most popular podcasts on the web, I’m not alone. The spin off, Serial, averaged 3.1 million listeners a week (and that doesn’t count the people that are continuing to discover it now).
If you’re in advertising and your Spidey senses aren’t tingling…You probably need a different career. That’s a huge captive audience ripe for the picking. I hadn’t heard of Audible.com until I started listening to This American Life…now, after hearing a few of their ads at the beginning and end of each episode, I found myself opening an Audible account one day. I didn’t realize I’d heard it on the radio until I tuned into another episode.
