The Malayalam language is blessed with endless extraordinary writers. Even from centuries back, legendary books had created in Malayalam language. To continue that legacy, now we have some youthful Contemporary writers. here are the 10 best among them.

Subhash Chandran

AMr. Subhash Chandran’s debut was through a short story competition conducted by Mathrubhumi Weekly for college students in 1994 and his story “Ghadikaarangal Nilakkunna Samayam” won the First Prize.Later a collection of his short stories under the same title won the Kerala Sahithya Academy Award by silencing the carping critics and has become the numero uno who wins this award at such an early age. “Manushaynu oru aamukham” (Novel), “Ghadikaarangal Nilakkunna Samayam”, “Parudeesa Nashtam” and “Thalpam” ( Short Story collections), “Madhyeyingane”, “Kaanunna Nerathu”(vignettes) are his major contributions. To his credit a handful of daedal articles in periodicals can also be reckoned but no potboilers at all for sure.

Unni is a short story writer and screen writer in Malayalam. He is known for his stories like Leela, Kottayam 17 etc.

Rafeeq Ahammed

Rafeeq Ahammed (born December 17, 1961) is a Malayalam poet, lyricist and novelist. He has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Poetry and is a four-time winner of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyrics. He is regarded as one of the most successful film-song writers for contemporary Malayalam films.

K.R. Meera

K.R. Meera is an Indian author, who writes in Malayalam. She won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for her short-story, Ave Maria.She has also been noted as a screenplay writer of 4 serials.
Meera was born in Sasthamkotta, Kollam district in Kerala.She worked as a journalist in Malayala Manorama, later resigned to concentrate more on writing. She is also a well-known column-writer in Malayalam.

Benyamin

Benyamin (born 1971, Benny Daniel) is an Indian novelist and short story writer in Malayalam language from Nhettur, Kulanada, Pattanamtitta district of the south Indian state of Kerala. He is residing in the Kingdom of Bahrain since 1992, from the age of twenty, and his works appear regularly on Malayalam publications in Kerala.

Santhosh Echikkanam

Santhosh Echikkanam is a South Indian, contemporary short story writer from Kerala. He is one of the newcomers in Malayalam literature. He was born in Kasargode district in Kerala. Santhosh was into politics during his college days. He never came first in the college story-writing competitions. But he stuck on to his passion and later turned to be a good writer mostly in short stories. His stories are down to earth and speak about the common people.

Sithara S

Sithara S. is one of the prominent writers of the younger generation, whose stories capture the complexities of modern life, particularly from the perspective of women, and are often angry and defiant in tone. She writes short stories in Malayalam and English.

Kureepuzha Sreekumar

Kureepuzha Sreekumar (b. 10 April 1955 in Kureepuzha, Kollam, Kerala, is a noted Malayalam poet of the post modern era. His books of poetry include Habibinte Dinakkurippukal, his first, published in 1984, Sreekumarinte Dukkangal, Rahulan Urangunnilla, Amma Malayalam,Keezhaalan and Suicide Point.
