Etymology: Goji is a Western approximation of the word, which appears in a number of Chinese dialects. It's most likely that it comes from the Persian 'gojeh', meaning plum or berry. Goji are also known as wolfberries - this could be a corruption of the Mandarin 'gou', meaning wolf or, possibly, a confusion of its botanical name (Lycium chinense) - 'lycos' is the Greek for wolf.
