Lakes to Visit on Western Colorado's Grand Mesa

Here are some lakes we have visited on the Grand Mesa. Add your favs

1

Jumbo Reservoir

Jumbo Reservoir

This charming lake is a favorite for local fishermen. A forest service campground is on the opposite shore. It's part of the Mesa Lakes group.

2

Sunset Lake

Sunset Lake

This is another lake in the Mesa Lakes group. You can reach it from Jumbo via a trail or a road. If you take the road, there is a fee for parking.

3

Beaver Lake

Beaver Lake

This pretty little lake, also in the Mesa Lakes group, is surrounded by aspens and evergreens. You can rent a boat at the lodge (if it's open which, unfortunately, it was not when we visited recently)

4

Island Lake

Island Lake

This large, beautiful lake near the top of the Mesa is becoming popular with paddlers. A small convenience store and lodge is open year-round by the highway. Boats and cabins are available to rent.

5

Ward Lake

Ward Lake

Near the Grand Mesa Visitor Center, Ward Lake is surrounded by wildflowers in the summer. There is a lodge nearby with cabins for rent. In the winter, this area is popular for snowmobiles.

Ponds at Lands End

Ponds at Lands End

These marshes and ponds near the Lands End turnoff are great places to see summer wildflowers. When we were there, thousands of little frogs were singing under the white flowers in the foreground.
