Wordpress. The biggest player in the Blogging arena and often used as a Content Management System (CMS) for large websites and portfolios. This is the self hosted version, but you can also setup a blog at wordpress.com

Post anything (from anywhere!), customize everything, and find and follow what you love. Create your own Tumblr blog today. Widely used the artistic community, as it allows image replies and supports GIFs. The default templates are fairly nice too. Doesn't nateively support export of the blog though.

Introduced to me at JISC event, This portfolio tool is being used by staff and students in UK HE and is replacing the CV to send to potential employers.

Namecheap Education Program: Free Domains for Students

The Namecheap Education Program provides free domains and email hosting for university students in the US, UK, and Canada. Not technically a portfolio service, but a space in which to create your own.
