What is an idiom? A group of words that mean something different than the words...think Amelia Bedelia!
Every language has its own collection of wise sayings. They offer advice about how to live and also transfer some underlying ideas, principles and values of a given culture / society. These sayings are called "idioms" - or proverbs if they are longer.
Idioms for kids are word combinations that kids use which have a different meaning than the literal meanings of each word.
Students illustrated and explained idioms. Common Core Standard L.4.5 Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. Common Core Standard SL.3.6 Speak in complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.
