Many of us are using iPads, iPods, or other devices in our classrooms this coming year! This technology is so exciting, especially when we get it into the hands of young learners!!! It can definitely enhance learning, encourage creativity and collaboration, and keep the kiddos engaged in their learning!

Last school year we were so excited to delve into the LEAP program ( Learning and Engaging through Access and P ersonalization) starting in our 3rd and 4th grades in October of 2012. By the end of February of 2013, our entire school went 1:1.

We had a Social Media workshop at our school last night that was very eye-opening for parents and teachers. One quote that I walk away with, which was shared by Social Media guru, Maralyn Beck, is "Our kids are growing up on a digital playground, and no one is on digital recess duty (@KevinHoneycutt)".

I had the pleasure of working with 5th graders on an ebook project on Fractions this week. The students were asked to choose a fractions concept that they had learned this year, such as making equivalent fractions, multiplying fractions, etc., and then design an ebook on their iPads using my all time favorite app, Book Creator.

Just a little over four months ago, my third graders and I embarked upon a journey of becoming a 1:1 Classroom! Excitement and anticipation filled the air as our iPads arrived on our 100th Day of School and Learning! Becoming a 1:1 classroom was a huge game-changer in my teaching career!

On Monday, November 4th, BPE hosted Dr. Dieter Breithecker, an authority on ergonomics for children from the Federal Institute on the Development of Posture and Exercise in Wiesbaden, Germany. Dr. Breithecker spoke to teachers, parents, and community members about his research on movement and brain activity.
