This is a group of women who inspire others and challenge the status quo. They make discoveries, and call out injustices. They are community minded, and globally aware. Feel free to add any amazing woman you'd like!
#Hawa #Abdi is a Somalian doctor. She has risked her life to be a physician, not budging while rebels took her hostage during the Islamist insurgency. She is also a moving human rights activist, providing free medical services to women and children. Her work is incredibly important.
#Margaret #Atwood is not only one of the most influential writers ever, she is also a passionate environmental activist. She has won many awards in literature for her work, and is on every English class syllabus out there. Stories such as The Handmaids Tale, and The Edible Woman have caught the eye of feminists because of their commentary on patriarchal society through characters and plot.
#Jane #Goodall rose to fame in a scientific field that was dominated by men when she started. She is one of the world's most recognized primatologists, because she gave us a priceless view into the world of Chimpanzees. She is also a prominent #animal #rights activist, always fighting for the ones she worked beside all her life.
#Vandana #Shiva is a passionate and well-educated environmental activist. She takes on the issue of globalization while working alongside India's farmers, promoting biodiversity and highlighting indigenous lives and work. She advocates seed freedom by confronting large corporate companies for their attempted ownership of seeds. Food is life.
#Oprah is one of the most well-known women in the world. She's touched on everything from talk-show host to magazine editor. She chooses her movie roles well, and always has something heartwarming and inspirational to say.
#Laverne #Cox is an excellent actress best known for her character "Sofia Burset" on Orange is the New Black. She was the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of TIME magazine, and to be nominated for an Emmy. She is outspoken and inspirational in her writing about #transgender rights.
#Jenna #Talackova is an openly transgender model. She took on Donald Trump for the right to participate in the Miss Universe Canada 2012 competition, which prohibited her because of the ridiculous rule stating that you must be a "naturally born woman" to compete. She won her right to complete. After, she appeared on a reality show, and now models all over the world.
#Arundhati #Roy is a heavily political famous author. She wrote the Booker Prize winning novel "The God of Small Things". She is an outspoken critic of Israel, the Sri Lankan Government, and United States foreign policy (these are only a few of her targeted issues).
#Mia #McKenzie is the creator and editor in chief of the blog Black Girl Dangerous. She writes on race, gender, queerness, and class with unstoppable passion, taking down any misogynist, white-supremist nonsense with her words.
#Marjane #Satrapi is an Iranian born French author, with works such as the very famous "Persepolis". Aside from incredible children's stories, she has insightful political articles in news sites like The Guardian.
Pop culture and all that ideology sitting in the blind spot. Also crafts.
