Running: You’re Doing It Wrong

Many people think that running is as simple as lacing up your old sneakers and hitting the pavement. But, contrary to popular belief, there’s actually a right and wrong way to run. While it’s all kudos to you for setting up a training program and sticking to it, just make sure that you’re running the right way and reaping all the benefits of physical exercise.
You’re in Pain
While a little soreness is common after exercising and running, pain that lasts for a few days after may be a sign of an injury. It can often be hard to identify exactly when an injury occurred, so your injury may either be the result of poor shoes or overtraining.
You Tire Easily
New runners often think that once you’re laced up, it should be all gung-ho from then on. However, it’s important to find your pace and stick to it while running so that you don’t wear yourself out by the end of the first block.
You’re Cramping Up
One thing that all runners need to pay extra attention to while out training, and always, is their hydration. Dehydration, lack of electrolytes and shallow breathing can all cause a runner to cramp up. Make sure to stay hydrated all day and maintain a healthy diet.
You Lose Motivation
It happens to everyone—you’ve had a long day at work and training is the last thing you want to do. By joining a running group or having a running partner, you can help yourself, and others, stay motivated to get back into shape.
Your Muscles Are Tight
If you are skipping out on a proper warm-up or cool-down, you can be doing more harm than good to your body. Stretching and warming up are vital to injury prevention and can help a runner feel better during, and after, their run.
