5 Workouts To Do With A Broken Foot

Having a broken foot can put a damper on any workout plan. Before throwing in the towel and grabbing the bag of chips for the next few weeks, try these exercises that exert little to no pressure on the foot. It’s no Utah hike like you may be use to, but it will be better than nothing. Always check with a foot doctor before performing these, as everyone’s injuries are different.

Abs Exercise

Almost all abdominal workouts avoid pressure on standing feet. Once the doctor has cleared the patient for workouts try some abdominal exercises while laying down to help strengthen the core once the foot is cleared for workouts.

Side Leg Lifts

Side leg lifts are a great way to workout the lower body. If the foot doctor has cleared the foot for this type of workout, then lie on one side and lift the leg closest to the ceiling. Pull the one resting on the ground up a little and begin lowering and raising the leg. This will help with toning.

Arm Curls

Arm curls can be done anywhere with almost any injury. Sit down on the couch and R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate) the broken foot like the doctor recommends and grab some weights. Just raise and lower the arms. For a little diversity try different weights or angles. Work the biceps and triceps and even try for the shoulders. Between this and the crutches those arms will be stronger than ever.

Knee Pushups

Knee pushups are a great way to incorporate the push up into the workout. Instead of a traditional pushup, use the knees as the point of pressure for the lower body. This can be altered into a plank for even more core engagement.

One-Legged Squats

Consult a foot doctor before trying this one out since it requires a lot of balance and coordination. Stand firmly on the foot that is not injured and hold onto a sturdy surface with the opposite hand. Hover the injured limb out straight and begin to squat. Repeat this several times.
