UCL Ideas looking for Collaboration

A board for posting start-up ideas, for all internal UCL students, so we can boost collaboration and growth!

Commentable - a better commenting platform for the whole web

Can you relate? You read an article, watch a video and then want to know or learn more. What are people saying? Has someone contributed a valuable comment? But more often than not, scrolling down to the comments, reveals nothing. Discussion may be spammy, low quality or perhaps, or the comment platform doesn't even exist! In other cases, maybe it needs you to sign in using a social profile - yeah that's not happening.

If you, like me, feel an urge to find a solution to problems like these, send me a message at peterhuang33@gmail.com I would love to chat!

Renewable energy potential of any property in the UK

Renewable energy potential of any property in the UK

Climate change has become the number one problem for our generation. It is affecting food supplies and water sources impacting communities and disrupting the way of life for millions.
Technologies like solar, wind and geo-thermal energy can replace dirty alternatives but the access to meaningful information is very limited for the average homeowner.
Potential adopters of renewable energy are put off by the sketchy estimates for costs and payback of the most basic installations. The whole process is cumbersome and unreliable at best not to mention lengthy and frustrating if one wants to compare multiple options. The technical details are daunting and don't translate into financial data that can helps the buyer make decision.
A website that aggregates data about solar, wind and thermal potential , house/roof direction, technologies, energy sell back schemes and installation costs with a smooth user interface could give the general public an easy and convenient way of comparing all the alternatives.

Improving horse training

Improving horse training

Sport horses often got injured because of a non-adapted training. For the horses' owners injuries of their horses means a long painful period. I would like to create an equivalent of "micoach" or "nike+" to help the riders train their horse in an optimal way in order to relieve their pain by limiting the injuries' risk and by assisting them in the recovering program of their horse.

BitWise - Step-up account to help fight financial exclusion, be your own bank

BitWise - Step-up account to help fight financial exclusion, be your own bank

Joel’s story
Joel is a migrant from Brazil. When he arrived in the UK two years ago, Joel’s passport was retained by the immigration authorities. As an undocumented migrant, he was unable to open a bank account. Nevertheless, his employers insisted on paying him electronically, so Joel started to use his flatmate Arturo’s bank account to receive his wages.
One morning he was shocked to find that Arturo had disappeared, taking £1,700 of Joel’s savings with him.

To help people like Joel I want to create a step-up account based on Bitcoin for unbanked people in the UK which offers the ability to receive and send money from/to an UK bank account without the many hurdles of getting a bank account. It makes money transfers easy and reliable for people who are already struggling with their money. This is only one of the many use cases for this idea but it illustrates the most urgent.

AutoHypno An app for Hypnotherapy Students.

AutoHypno An app for Hypnotherapy Students.

Can you make apps?

I have designed an app for students trying to learn to be hypnotherapists. It is a small market but not tiny. In this country about 1000 people pay hundreds of pounds to learn hypnotherapy each year. In america that figure is many times higher.
I have a partnership deal with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis who have agree to sell the app (for a healthy margin) along side their course for a slice of the profits.

The app is visually fully designed including all screens and logos and I have a functional wireframe that I have used to successfully pitch the app.

It is a small project and is ready to go with a buyer in place and would be good experience for anyone looking to work on a project and get an app to market. There would certainly be the potential to adapt the app for other verticals and to license etc if we find another potential user segment.

If you code IOS apps (android a plus) and wants to work on a project I would love to hear from you.
