The Corniche is one location that for a few hours completely sweeps you away from this world. Ideal for a quiet walk during winter time, the Corniche located in the heart of the city is the perfect getaway for some winding down for those who do not have the liberty to go too far. This revamped waterfront underneath millions of stars is magical at night time. The Arabian Sea and sky amidst the settings of perfection is a real treat for all those visiting Sur.

The Maritime Museum

Sur being a coastal city has a rich history as an important destination point for sailors in the past. The Maritime Museum is one location in Sur which perfectly reflects the history of the city over a period of roughly about a hundred years. The Museum is located just past the fort in the Al Aruba sports complex. Although it is not very extensive, the collection exhibited in the Museum is just enough to enjoy Sur in the light of its yesteryears.

The Ras Al Hadd Bay is known above all for its collection of traditional dhows (wooden boats) docked in its waters. Locals actually go fishing and make a living using these boats. For tourists however, this picturesque sight is something to be savored and is best viewed during dawn or dusk.

One of the most popular things to do in Oman is visiting the beaches. Since Oman is blessed with plenty of Coastal cities -Sur being a classic example- visiting its many beaches is an absolute must. The beach at the Ras Al Hadd Bay is exceptionally calm making it ideal for swimming and a number of other water based activities. It is however, only accessible to those who stay at the Turtle Beach Resort.

Among the remnants of the historical significance of Sur are the 2 large watch towers that adorn the coastline of this city. Throughout Oman several watch towers are found guarding the many forts that have been built but nothing quite compares to those found in Sur. Located in close proximity to one another, these towers are quite magnificent as it has been constructed by the waterfront.

In the South of Sur one can find the old town; a location that boasts much of Sur's historic remains. Among the many age old mud buildings found here is a prominent light house that guards the water channel entering Sur.
