What is an EduCampNZ unconference and why should I participate?

Connection, PD & Ako

EducampAKl was a complete revelation for me, attending for the first time I had a strong preconceived notion of what was ahead. I'd followed a couple through the twitter feed and had even contributed from afar. However, I had no clue of how much I would get from a day's free PD.

Inquire, Learn, Grow, Inspire: EduCamp Auckland

I have always wanted to attend an Educamp in Auckland, but it just never happened. This year however, I took the plunge, registered and was brave enough to add slides to the ' Smackdown', after receiving this tweet from Fiona. I was looking forward to my participation with much anticipation (however, not so much to the early rise).

edchatnz: unconference, Twitter and the power of serendipitous learning

What motivates kiwi educators to spend 4-5 hours together, sometimes more when they travel, and on a Saturday? The unconference model was a no-brainer as it seemed to reflect the serendipitous-While most EduCampNZ events include a focus on digital learning the programme is developed on the day by whoever is there.

Virtual Learning Network: People, People, People

Saturday was my third #EduCampAKL and well worth the caffeine fuelled drive up from Hamilton to Epsom Girls Grammar School. There were lots of new faces, plenty of familiar ones and a few online friends that it was great to meet face to face for the first time.

Manaiakalani: Unconference 09

The Thanks to Unconference held on Saturday May 9 at Pt England School has shown us again what a great opportunity these kinds of events are for educators to come together for high quality professional development at no cost (other than giving up a Saturday at a very busy time of the year).

Conversations and Collaborations

Summerland Primary hosted EduCamp 2010, which is an unconference styled day where participants who turn up decide on the content and direction of the day as it rolls through. It's an event that has been on my calendar for a while and it didn't fail to disappoint.

Another chapter in the story of educamps...The MAGIC of educampchch |

CORE Education eFellow and self-confessed 'educamp groupie' Anne Kenneally shares her experience of educampchch, which she travelled up from Dunedin to attend. EducampNZ is a user-generated 'unconference' focused on e-learning and education. The journey towards educampchch began way back in 2011 at the inaugural educampdunners.

iLearn: EduCampAkld Reflection

Last weekend I was lucky enough to attend the EduCamp in Auckland. Having never attended an un-conference, I was unsure what to expect. This years EduCampAkld was held at the 18 month young Stonefields School in Mt Wellington. This in itself was worth the journey over the other side of the bridge.

There are only two types of people in this world...

A few years ago a guest speaker at work tried to persuade us that there were four types of people in the world ...powerful, peaceful, precise and party. No surprises what type I was ;-). A decade ago I guess I did approach decision making with some precision... I had a plan!

Flexie's Ramblings.....

It's been awhile since I have blogged and I will be trying to bring my old blog over here but as I am trying to sort everything out on a limited time frame please be patient. Yesterday I attended #EduCampAKL for the second year in a row.

EduCamp Auckland

Photo supplied by Fiona Grant Another fantastic event organised by the lovely Fiona Grant at Epsom Girls Grammar thanks to the other lovely Claire Amos. There was a fantastic turnout of educators who were all generous in the sharing and learning of ideas.

Something to teach, something to learn: why #educampakl rocked!

I've gone to a few conferences in my time and have noticed that often the best learning takes place in the bar afterwards. Enter Educampakl. Based on the Barcamp conference, Educamps are conferences in which the participants generate the content for the day. I find it amazing that teachers will give up a Saturday to...

"Your geekiness knows no bounds."

Never before have I shared a room with so many teachers passionate about IT. I went to EducampAKL today, an unconference for teachers passionate about IT. Highlights: Smackdown is a great idea: two minute presentations where you're not allowed to touch a computer. Just sign up and post a link.

Counting down to #EduCampAKL tomorrow

While most EduCampNZ events include a focus on digital learning the programme is developed on the day by whoever is there. Sessions range from demos and hands on to lively conversations as well as an active backchannel sharing on Twitter and collaborative docs. Many events will also include participants contributing from a distance ...

Unconference

Monday 18th August, we had a wonderful unconference in Auckland. A range of people - teachers, facilitators, principals and more got together to geek speak for an evening. Here's an overview of the evening... Dorothy Burt on her trip to Google in USA.

Absolutely Positively Proud

Saturday saw the inaugural #EduCampWelly, an unconference for Wellington educators to exchange ideas, share learning and pursue their passions for all things 'e-learning'. Highlights of the day for me were (not necessarily in this order): The never-ending supply of coffee (thanks, @timoslimo and Emporio. Btw, they are not funding this blog;-) The wonderful mix of...

Wellington Educamp

I'm in Wellington this weekend spending time with some friends from my PLN. On Saturday we all attended/participated in the first ever Wellington Educamp. (Twitter feed here: http://twitter.com/#!/search/%23educampwelly) Right from the start it was all about conversations whether they were 2 minute snapshots at the smackdown starter or around a table all talking about the same thing or over lunch at Maccers.

Something to teach, something to learn: why #educampakl still rocks!

A bit late in posting this but as always, better late than never. I've lost count of the number of educamps I've been to since @fionagrant gave me a lift up to Educamp Tai Tokerau 2 years ago. But suffice to say it's been a few.

#educamptt How to Spend a Saturday Learning - Here, There, Anywhere!

While I didn't drive up to Educamp Tai Tokerau, I WAS there! It was a fantastic experience sharing and contributing to the smackdown, and facilitating two workshops with the amazing Monika Kern (@BeLchick). Spur of the moment stuff: I sat amongst the washing at home (well, almost) and talked about Coding and Minecraft with groups of teachers.

We're Going on a Road Trip - and Another Saturday of Learning

I love learning and I love meeting face to face with those educators who are now my friends. Marnel Van der Spuy (@1MvdS), Alex Le Long (ariaporo22) and myself (@mrs_hyde) rose very early and faced the Saturday morning darkness, fog and traffic to head north to Educamp Auckland.

In My Ele_ment

I love unconferences. The right people come...and in this case I had @ariaporo22 and @kasseylee66 with me. The latest ideas are offered. The most popular ideas are elaborated. Educators share and connect. They know who to ask for help.

EduCamp Minecraft

Today the first Educamp Minecraft was held in Rotorua. As a long time proponent of Minecraft as a teaching and learning tool, I was lucky to be asked to present via Skype from Christchurch and managed to participate via Twitter...
