B-town is now looking towards sports for inspiration.
With several sports-based films hitting the screens soon, let's take a look at some of the all-time favourites and the much-awaited ones.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

his Farhan Akhtar starrer, which is directed by Rakeyesh Om Prakash Mehra, is a biopic of legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh aka Flying Sikh.

Singh has said that, hopefully, the film will trigger enthusiasm among the youth to take up sports.

The movie was announced a year ago and promotions for the film have already begun in Chandigarh.

Paan Singh Tomar

Paan Singh Tomar

The film is based on athlete Paan Singh who won the steeplechase event at the Indian National Games seven years in a row, and then went on to become a rebel in the Chambal valley.

Starring Irrfan Khan and Mahie Gill, the movie hit screens on March 2, and has been well received.

Director Tigmanshu Dhulia heard about Singh while working on Bandit Queen in Chambal and decided to make a film about him.

Ferrari Ki Sawaari

The trailer for this family sports film starts off by saying that '1 idiot' (Sharman Joshi of 3 Idiots) will take you on a joy ride.

The films also features Boman Irani and Darsheel Safari, is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, and has Vidya Balan in her first item number ever.

This heart-warming film about a father's effort to fulfil his son's wish will release in the middle of the IPL season.

Lagaan

Lagaan

This is one of those classic films that will not fade from our memory anytime soon.

The film is based on a group of villagers who play a cricket match against the British officers to waive their taxes for the next three years.

This Oscar nominated film - that featured Aamir Khan, Rachel Shelly and Gracy Singh - even made it to Time magazine's special 'The All-TIME 25 Best Sports Movies' list.

Chak De! India

Chak De! India

One of Shah Rukh Khan's best films, the movie sparked a craze for hockey, especially among young women.

The film features the rise of the women's Indian hockey team, led by former hockey player Kabir Khan (SRK), who had been unfairly kicked out of his team.

A super hit, the film roused our patriotism and is one of the best-made sports film in B-town.

Iqbal

A small-budget film with a big heart that was directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and starred Shreyas Talpade, Naseeruddin Shah, Girish Karnad and Shweta Prasad.

The film revolved around a deaf-mute boy who is obsessed with cricket and wants to play for the Indian team.

The movie went on to become the sleeper hit of the year and even won the National Award for highlighting social issues.

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

han Dhana Dhan Goal has John Abraham, Bipasha Basu, Arshad Wasi and Boman Irani playing the main characters.

The movie revolved around a down-and-out football team, Southall United Football Club, that comprises of South Asian players, and how they go on to win the Combined Counties championship.

Although the movie went overboard by trying to show racism against the South Asians in the UK, we did end up rooting for Southall to win in the end.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar

This Aamir Khan-starrer, directed by Nasir Hussian, had him playing a carefree youngster who joins a cycling race to prove himself a good brother and son.

Aamir's charming performance, the breezy songs, the nail-biting finale and a hot Pooja Bedi made this an entertaining film.

Kai Po Che! directed by Abhishek Kapoor based on Chetan Bhagat's novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life. Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh star as the three main protagonists while Amrita Puri plays the female lead.

Set in Ahmedabad, the story revolves around three friends, Ishaan (Sushant Singh Rajput), Omi (Amit Sadh) and Govind (Raj Kumar Yadav), who want to start their own sports shop and sports academy. The film tracks their deep friendship, and innocence tarnished by religious politics and communal hatred, which results in their fallout, and an eventual death.

Bend It Like Beckham is a comedy-drama film starring Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Anupam Kher, Shaznay Lewis, and Archie Panjabi, first released in the United Kingdom. The film was directed by Gurinder Chadha. Its title refers to the football player David Beckham and his skill at scoring from free kicks by bending the ball past a wall of defenders.

For this purpose, he behaves with him like a strict disciplinarian without caring for the fact that his harsh attitude is taking his little son away from him.

Mary Kom is an upcoming 2014 Indian biographical sports drama film directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali on a story and screenplay written by Saiwyn Quadras.[1] Rob Miller of ReelSports, the sports action director for Chak De! India and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, coordinated the sports action sequences for the film.[2] [3][4][5][6] Based on the life of the Indian boxer Mary Kom, the film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Danny Denzongpa, Minakkshi Kalitaa, Bijou Thaangjam, Darshan Kumar, Shishir Sharma and Zachary Coffin also star in the movie. First look of the movie unveiled on 15th July 2014 by Priyanka Chopra.[7] The film is scheduled for release on 5th September 2014.[8] Movie will be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014.[9]
